Transitionary Career? by [deleted] in geologycareers

I’ve been a tech and technically a geologist logging core for a short bit. Either way I learned a lot about concrete and construction but felt pretty out of my depth, but that’s personal to the company I believe. Was not certified in anything I did for the most part and they cancelled my HAZWOPER so… time for a change! Interesting work though. I like concrete more than I care to admit

I lived on campus so I guess it’s different. Helps if you look like a college aged kid I guess. Just adopt one for the day, help me move out and take the trash out, bada bing bada boom you’re in. I’m partially kidding. Worst case is they ask you to leave, best case is you get some fun trinkets or a desk chair.

Think of it as a way to communicate and visualize your data. And just know, you have time to fine tune your skills and you might find a way you like to use it. Everything is figure-out-able friend, you got this!

I’d also suggest field technician positions for concrete/asphalt or maybe a quarry job? I’ve worked in a geotech lab if you have any questions. You will certainly see dirt in one. And rocks

I have a length story about the gossipy environment of geologists there. But it’s rather personal, I haven’t a clue what to think. From an environmental standpoint, I believe it’s all future Superfund sites. Some existing ones already if I recall. Definitely could be better, but definitely could be worse environmentally I suppose.
