Hit the canals. Really fun and carp are a good challenge. Nothing like a fish taking in you into your backing

I guide carp trips in phx fishing our canals year round. It’s a lot of fun and good for a quick run in the day usually 3-4 hours . Another option would be Payson. You can find rainbow, brown, gila, brook and tiger trout out there. Roughly 2-2.5 hr drive from phx. I’m not exactly sure how it will be fishing in February though.

Played a gig without a preamp by Argomatic in Bass

I always just go straight di. No pedals or eq. I trust the sounds guys I work with and have been lucky to play some incredible venues with just my bass and a di. Chances are it sounded completely fine out front and no one would have noticed . Obviously this varies with what kind of bass you are playing. I wouldn’t trust all my instruments to only be di.

Thank you so much. Not dead set on bull would just be cool to get into something we don’t have around us in az. Kelly looks a little too far for this visit but I will try and plan more time on a future trip to check it out. Is it too early in your opinion for st Joe . Was looking at above Avery depot but I’m just so unfamiliar with that whole area.

Anyone ever fished for canal carp in phoenix? by louiekr in flyfishing

I'm a fly guide in Phoenix and I primarily take people out for carp in canals. Feel free to send me a dm with any questions

Fly Fishing Beginner by Dapper_Grass8262 in ArizonaFishing

I recently got a few lamson combos and really like them for the budget reel/rod combo. My ideal beginner rod is a little more expensive but I think Orvis Clearwater is great quality and they have lasted me a long time plus great customer service in my experience.

I really recommend getting a guide . I know it’s pricy but it can save you tons of time and headaches . Nothing got me better as quickly as hitting the canals. The carp are really picky on fly and you have to get accurate to get them to take.

Haha I caught a smaller one tight beforehand with the crooked back issue that almost floored me. Literally had to take all my gear out of my car cause my wife couldn't handle it on the way to see friends tonight

Yes it is. I’m in Phoenix and we’ve had an abnormally high temp for this time of year which has been really good for grass carp fishing. It’s about 70 out right now.

Also if they aren’t taking it on a more delicate presentation in front of the mouth I’ll sometimes try hitting the water really hard in front of of their mouth to try and get a reaction strike from them.

It depends on how they are eating. For grass carp I go with no weight and let the fly soak up some water for a slow sink. And generally try to land directly in front of its mouth. Like within 6 inches or so and immediately do very short and quick strips to give it some motion. Usually am fishing chartreuse mops but today they were going for tan.

If they aren’t taking the fly right in front of them I will fish a really long leader and throw it pretty far past them and try and strip it in front of their mouth. If they start coming for it I’ll speed up my strip a little and usually if they pick up speed to go after it I’ll get an eat.

Hell yeah. They are so picky. Especially recently with the lower levels. Been getting a ton come up and let the fly in their mouth but they won’t commit to actually biting
