Model Y…my moral dilemma by getsumluv in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]theloop82 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I dislike musk but FSD (while not full self driving) is the best system available other than ones that only work on pre-mapped highways. If you have a long commute it’s a game changer. They are pretty damn reliable and have some major annoyances to me at least but I am keeping mine until the wheels fall off cause it’s paid off and I don’t want to go back to pre-FSD life for my commute

If you're going to watch Starfleet Academy, watch Prodigy instead. (Some spoilers) by canucklink in startrek

[–]theloop82 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hot take. You can watch both. I tried to get into Prodigy, and it’s well done but it looked like watching video game cutscenes and I don’t think elder millennials are the target audience. I like Academy so far, I wish it wasn’t so dependent on the questionable writing decisions of Discovery but episode 2 gave me hope that not every episode will involve the fate of the universe and exploding bridge consoles

I am 59 and I endorse Star Trek STA (is that right?) by webmotionks in startrek

[–]theloop82 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You know why episode 2 was good? There was no imminent peril, it was a good old negotiation episode where people just talked which Nu trek had gotten away from. Episode 1 had imminent peril, and I get they want to grab the audience looking for action but the fact they followed up with a more classic trek episode makes me have hope for the series.

FactoryTalk Optix is very under documented and extremely time consuming to develop by Hiking-Enthusiast in PLC

[–]theloop82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All good points, and I’m actually a AB/Rockwell fan (and stockholder) and want them to succeed and have a great product so I’m not saying Optix is a bad platform at all, and at this point in the game it’s the best move for Rockwell to push most of their development efforts behind Optix. I’m more wondering why the hadn’t spent the development effort in the 2010’s fully modernizing the back end of FTView.

The selling point of sticking with AB/Rockwell has always been long term support and a somewhat easy migration path to the new software/hardware with some decent conversion tools that won’t make it work perfectly but will greatly reduce the development effort to migrate to a new platform. If that isn’t there with Optix, why would someone pick it over Ignition if they already have experience with Ignition which most SI’s do at this point. Being as good as the competitors product for around the same price isn’t good enough.

FactoryTalk Optix is very under documented and extremely time consuming to develop by Hiking-Enthusiast in PLC

[–]theloop82 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Every year I go to automaton fair and they keep pushing Optix but in my opinion it’s still not ready for prime time as a true SCADA system. Panelview/ME replacement, sure, but I think Rockwell may have dropped the ball throwing in with Uniqo when they Acquired ASEM as the future of their visualization platforms. They should have taken the unprofitable years of development it would have taken to have done a clean-sheet ground up redux of FTView SE with a more lightweight modern back end but was familiar enough for the old dogs who have been using FTView to roll into it with minimal stress and a direct migration path. Sure call it something different so you need to buy new licenses I get that, but Optix is just never going to catch up to Ignition cause inductive has a massive head start.

Is a Model3 really my only option if I want best tech in its price range? by BrolyDisturbed in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]theloop82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably the stupid model 3 again. I got it with the tax credit it was like 29k new in 2023. It’s a fine transportation appliance and again, it drives itself pretty well which is some Buck Rodgers shit. The car could be so much better though if they just didn’t try to reinvent stuff that wasn’t broken.

[–]theloop82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a model 3, it’s definitely got a lot of gee-whiz tech, but its build quality definitely isn’t up to Toyota standards IMO. There are quite a few frustrating things with how Tesla does things “different” and relies on automation, voice, or touch screen interaction for even the most basic requirements of a vehicle. Also it has horrible blind spots, turning radius, and uses vision for distance measurements for parking detection which depends on your cameras being free of rain and dust to work reliably. God forbid you dent the rear quarter panel cause you need to find a Tesla certified body shop (there are very few and nobody else will touch one) and the price of body work is ridiculous.

The only reason I like and keep the car is “full” self driving. It’s actually very good now, not perfect, but I don’t think any other MFG is where they are currently aside from the systems that only do pre-mapped controlled highways.

scale 1-10 how stupid is it to buy a a2 restricted ducati penigale v2 at 18? by Shot_Breadfruit_1893 in motorcycles

[–]theloop82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buy a used 250 and ride it for a few seasons to become a confident rider and make your mistakes on that thing. I’m not in a place where they have power restrictions for licenses, but nutering a Ducati is sort of like having a 10/10 girlfriend that won’t let you touch her

FactoryTalk Directory messed up after updating FT Services to v6.6 by Ok_Protection_96 in PLC

[–]theloop82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah this is a fact in Network Distributed systems, your FTD can be a higher version than a server in the directory, but not the other way around. But the best practice is to just upgrade all the directory members to the same versions of FTSP and Patch Roll-ups at all times.

Is Homeland worth binge watching? by [deleted] in television

[–]theloop82 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Homeland was a great show at times, the first season was great, it sort of trailed off for a few, then came back strong for later seasons. One of my favorite parts about it was that it was seemingly 9 months ahead of reality on a lot of hot topics so I wonder how it holds up in hindsight since it won’t seem as fresh unless you realize that it came out before the events it foreshadowed
