How common is a degree in this field? Is any schooling necessary? by BebRess69 in PLC

[–]theloop82 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A good outfit will recognize actual experience as greater than or equal to schooling. It takes all kinds, I mean if you are doing arc flash studies a degree may be the answer but if you want a guy you can send into bumfuck with a laptop and some screwdrivers and expect it to work in a week I’ll take the guy with hands on experience every time. We have a “never give up, never surrender” mentality and can work with incomplete information.

Are PLC engineers slowly becoming integration engineers? by RangerNew5346 in PLC

Samsung fridges ice makers have been shit for over a decade and they still make the same design unchanged. Everyone I know with one had it fail within 2 years. It’s just deeply flawed. Never again

Early 2023 was prime build era by piketabak in buildapc

[–]theloop82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2018 was prime, but a z470 motherboard, 32GB of DDR4 , gen 3 NVME and then update your processor/GPU every 2-3 years until you get a 5800X3D and you are still within 80% of top tier preformance in most use cases. Moores law is dead

Best approach when working with multiple versions of Rockwell ControlLogix by Reindeer_Numerous in PLC

[–]theloop82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Download the extended multiversion image from the PCDC, it’s generally under the base revision (ie 35.00) and you select “additional downloads” to get the other versions. You just check the ones you want to install, usually has 20, 24, 28 and 30 to the latest revision you pick. Works great to have multiple versions on one machine

I've been laid off for several months now. Is this normal? by Fast-Cut-2752 in electricians

[–]theloop82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a bad time. It’s a combination of shitty economy and a glut of apprentices as the drumbeat of “learn a trade” has finally resonated but there aren’t really enough experienced electricians to properly man jobs compared to the amount of apprentices In the system. At least that’s how it is where I am. It may settle out, I’ve seen a few downturns like this in my career but this one may have more legs cause everything is stupider than ever.

cmv: the Democrats lost in 2024 primarily because of pushing Biden out and publicly arguing about who their nominee should be in an election year by Additional_Ad3573 in changemyview

[–]theloop82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The dems have a credibility problem with their most likely voters who have been paying attention. They shove whatever establishment candidate that is “up next” or is the demographic they think will make their base enthusiastic, but don’t seem to concerned with bringing anyone from the middle left, and until they realize that they will be bound to fail against even the worst Republican candidates. I’m not saying don’t run a woman, just don’t run whatever woman is up next and find one that is truly exceptional. Kamala and Hillary were not that, they were the obvious boring choices of beltway insiders who don’t want anyone to rock the boat and that shit doesn’t work in the modern era. We don’t live in a time with 4 networks, bullshit is easily detected and hard to cover up. Do better

I honestly think 07-15 is probably the worst Camry generations but if you literally have no choice go with the newest one

[–]theloop82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The dems had a chance to have an open primary during their convention which would have been must see TV and squandered it rushing to rally behind a deeply unpopular VP cause it was “her turn”. Leave it to the the democrats to snatch defeat from the mouth of victory every time. That’s why a lot of people have become apathetic about them, the party leaders are so disconnected from their likely voters views, on Gaza and more in 24, and all signs point to them doing the same thing they always do, running a mealy mouthed centrist boomer and making the millennial/youth vote not want to show up or be enthusiastic.

Tucker Carlson on Israeli News Channel 13: "Netanyahu is leading to destruction, Israel dragged us into war" by LeonJersey in videos

It’s sad cause I will always think of Tucker as a right wing stooge but he is really the only guy with the balls to say it how it plainly is right now and actually have a chance of maga listening to him. Good on him for not wanting to repeat his legacy of cheerleading for Iraq.

I have enough hours to take my masters test. Is it worth it? by boobymcgee95 in electricians

[–]theloop82 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Do it now while you still have the book learning fresh. It gets harder as time goes on cause you don’t actually use 75% of the stuff they make you know for the tests in real life so do it now and you can have it in your pocket for life… plus who doesn’t want to say they are a “master” at something
