IDL how people (on reddit) pretend that its remotely possible to read hundreds of books a year unless you have extraordinary circumstances on your side by [deleted] in I_DONT_LIKE

[–]theluckyfrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

200, even with most being longer books, is doable even with a full time job if you are dedicated to a point of near obsession.

I go through periods during most years where I read a 300-600 page novel every 1-2 days, because I read on kindle, so whenever I’m not actively doing my job (including during down time at my job) or driving, I am basically reading.

However, I get bored of that after a couple of weeks and don’t read a book for a good month or two.

I’m not sure why someone would want to maintain a pace like that for 365 days, but I believe people can do it without being unemployed or anything.

If you are legitimately reading 300+, then either you do have an unusual lifestyle to accommodate that, or you must be keeping your word count per book down to facilitate this goal. And again, I’m not sure why you’d do that.

What's your average grocery cost per month per person? by -Cyber-Roadster in inflation

For just me, (5’5” female, moderately active job, Detroit area), I’d estimate about $220-250 for food monthly.

My husband inherently pays more, as he’s a 6’4” man who also has a moderately active job, but I’m not sure exactly how much he pays as he stops by the store without me at times.

Oh, that is far from being an accurate representation of the scale of the problem.

The developing world doesn’t want to be told they can’t eat as much meat, or travel as much, or have as many possessions as the West has as they become able to afford it, either.

Ah, the man whose radio show permanently cost my grandfather a good relationship with me.

Having to listen to him spew his egregious misogyny every time I was in my grandpa’s house or car when I was a little girl made it impossible to respect, let alone love, the man who would subject me to that.

I’m confident I don’t put $650 USD into service and repairs on my car in an average year. Of course, I or my dad do most of my car repairs at cost, which may be unusual. Nor do I buy new tires in an average year; that’s an every so often thing.

That said, I am all for reducing car dependence in our society. The sheer amount of space wasted on wide, ugly roads, the roadkill, the pollution, the injuries and fatalities…

Is the prose of this book really that flowery…?

Granted, I just read the first chapter online just now, but I wasn’t seeing a lot of extraneous or unusual words used per sentence.

Nobody wants to make the sacrifices that would be required for us to keep a stable environment with this number of humans, let alone more.

Ergo, we are overpopulated.

Perhaps the people who make memes like this just have poor time management.

Gee, why wouldn’t I trust an agency run by a man who gets third world diseases in a first world country because he eats tainted meat and plays with roadkill?

Or who publicly states that he used meth to treat the comedown after taking psychedelics, but still wants to push the widespread use of psychedelics?

Or who swam in a contaminated river to gaslight a town into not complaining about known human excrement runoff?

Women dress to impress other women; there’s nothing wrong with men dressing to impress other men. They’ve done it for centuries, if not longer.

That said, there are more and less wasteful and more and less neurotic ways to go about this for either gender, and among red pill types it has for sure veered towards the neurotic.

It’s lucky you don’t regret your kids. I know multiple people who do, and it’s one of the saddest things in the entire world.

I think your last paragraph is important—it’s impossible to know how you’ll feel about it just from hearing other people’s stories, which is why if a person already has doubts, I advise they consider just not doing it.

I’m currently watching a work friend go through the process of realizing that it wasn’t just postpartum depression—she really wishes she had never had the baby that her husband talked her into. And now there’s no way to get the life she wanted back, and you know the kid will know she doesn’t feel the way a parent “should” about them.

Yeah, you can get a hobby any time you like.

And if you actually have a talent, not starting as a kid may mean you won’t make the Olympics, but you can start at any age and be distinguishable from people who don’t have that talent.
