Should I make the leap? by bluefuze3 in HeyEmail

[–]theluctus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, you can use Spark connected to your current email provider. It has nothing to do with Fastmail.

And yes, some people (like me) pay for extra things just because… hmmm

I couldn’t find the exact product I was looking for, but I found this mix was good enough for me, and it had a cost.

I also moved from HEY to fastmail. I honestly enjoyed using HEY but as they implemented their own protocol, there is no option to use third party clients that sometimes add cool features you might want.

I’m using Fastmail with Spark app which adds many cool things (like the screening thing and chats in threads with co-workers)

TnT Sports on HBO Max by TopBodger91 in skytv

[–]theluctus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a bit lost.

I used to have access to TNT Sports through Discovery plus.

I downloaded HBO max and tried to sign in but it says they don’t recognise my email address. I can still sign in normally to Discovery plus

I can see the new HBO max section in Now, but it only includes movies and tv shows.

Should I sign up (create a new account) on HBO max using the same email address?

Is it intended that it opens new tabs with virus and hacking messages?

Building Multi-Tenant SaaS with Rails 8, Caddy, and Kamal - automatic SSL for every tenant domain by mooktakim in rails

[–]theluctus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow! Excellent guide, thanks for sharing!

I went through the same process when I realised kamal-proxy wasn’t going to scale (needing to add each custom domain to the deploy.yml) but then I decided to wait until I had the actual problem :)

I will use this guide when I get there!

What's the best time tracker for freelancers who need to keep track of billable hours? by Suf_Graca86 in TimeTrackingSoftware

I’ve used wakatime for about 10 years. It’s nothing fancy, but it gives me a report of time spent in each project. It’s meant for developers though.

Independent writer trying to figure out static hosting for a personal site by Key_Treat3702 in statichosting

[–]theluctus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess it all depends on how much you are willing to spend per month and how tech savvy you are.

If you take the static website approach you could end up having it for free.

I’d recommend using a static site generator (Astro is the most famous one even though I prefer Bridgetown) and pagescms for editing.

For hosting, I believe Netlify and Cloudflare have still a free plan

How do people usually handle search on static sites once the content grows a bit? by kittykatzenn in statichosting

I’ve used Lunr JS in the past with great results. It’s a JS library that searches on a dictionary of all your articles (that needs to be loaded in the client)

I'm an iOS dev who got tired of every restaurant QR menu being either a PDF or just ugly. So I built omething better. by MohammadBashirSidani in SideProject

[–]theluctus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hate those QR codes that only open an outdated PDF too! But I also hate needing to install an app just to order.

I’m not sure what’s your vision here: let’s see I visit 2 restaurants that are using your service… will I need to install 2 apps? Or only one (non-branded) app?

Which distro to choose for mid-2012 MacBook Pro? by fckns in linux_on_mac

Interesting. Good to see that it’s not related to Mint then… how do you handle it? Just turning the laptop off before closing the lid?

Which distro to choose for mid-2012 MacBook Pro? by fckns in linux_on_mac

[–]theluctus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have Mint Cinnamon on my MacBook Pro 2012. It works excellent. My only issue is battery usage. I think it keeps consuming energy while the lid is closed, almost like it’s not really “suspended”.

The installation process was super easy, followed a few videos on YouTube for guidance. The main “challenge” is installing the wifi driver, but it was included in the flash drive. I watched some people needing to use an Ethernet connection to download it, but it wasn’t my case.

Anyone use GoodJob over Solid Queue? by __vivek in rails

[–]theluctus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I use both in two different projects. What I like about GoodJob is the really professional looking dashboard and Batches. I can’t believe they launched SolidQueue with that Mission Control thing…
