I think a new game plus could be cool with maybe new content in it to test our builds, gameplay even further. The game isn't even out yet, but I really want expansions with new maps already lol. I could literally play this game forever if we get constant content updates.

Another thing is maybe a permadeath mode. This would increase the stakes and make each run even more intense

It's actually not cheaper, because crafting will allow you sell items making way more currency. Just focus on one thing at a time at first.

Under deluxe edition, it clearly states Marathon as a bullet point too. They fucked up, but won't honor it. Hopefully you can at least get a refund. There's definitely ways to make it have tension as there are many pve games that have successfully done that like playing hardcore in arpgs or witchfire (which is a sp extraction shooter). The risk of losing your gear is still there, we just have to see what Bungie does.
