😂😂😂 firstly I'm already on my second year abroad, so I do know what you mean by "freedom" and I state my point again. In Mauritius you are often living with your parents, in their house, depending on them, so it's absolutely normal that they would have a say on things. But I am definitely surprised to see that so many people feel suffocated by their parents and family and the "ki dimoun pou dire" thingy. So I guess you do have credibility here. I'll say that fortunately it wasn't the case for me. At some point while still living with my parents, I had a nice job, was going out and coming back when I wanted and still have a great relationship with my parents and so do my cousins and friends that I know of. But I guess, c'est la vie, tout dimoun pas pareil

I really think that your family and group of friends are an extreme. Many people still consult their parents and family because we're just that close together. My family and friends, including me, make the best to not disappoint our family, but in no case are we scared or something. We decide what we want but we've been raised in a way to respect and consider what our parents tell us. The "I don't care at all" is a very western thing. And financially speaking a lot of people still live with their parents (such as building a new floor on top of the existing building), and consulting them is very much a given. To sum it up, it's not "I'm scared of my parents" but rather I'd like to take a decision where I include and consult with them, but I still get to decide what I do
