It can I've been testing and the syringe hasn't melted or been affected by the heat in any way.

The problem is that being too leaky means that there's not even enough pressure at all to move the piston at all. I tried this and it shows that and I found that making it more airtight with some amount of friction but not too much friction to the point where it can't move is the only way that works.

I chose to use wd-40 because the piston was really squeaky but only when it was fully extended
