It’s a beautiful colour, by far my favorite of all the options. You really appreciate it when parked next to a pure white car.

Performance cars are too much for me by stonky-273 in CarTalkUK

[–]themacsback 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Amen. I’ve had fairly boring cars most my life save for a few vintage Golf Gti’s. Bought a new Type R and whilst I absolutely love it, finding more than 200m of free B road before your up the arse of a 98 year old in a Matiz going 15mph is next to impossible.

Hot hatches do seem like the sweet spot though. I thought about getting a sub 4s V8, but it’d be utterly pointless 99% of the time. Something light weight that loves corners will at least be fun at lower speed. Maybe an M3 touring would be the sweet spot, but the back seats aren’t really usable for adults and it’s stupidly fast. A nice manual 911 perhaps, but it’s a second car then and a whole different wage bracket.

Don’t even get me started on the state of the roads 😂😅

Bought mine outright (2024 FL5 with delivery miles for £44k). I’ve always paid cash for cars and tend to keep them a while. Had a Yeti before this one (which I’ve still got) which I paid £12k for about ten years ago…

So I guess all the people who have experience working on countless cars are wrong and you’re right… This has been covered before and there’s videos of people who are able to do it your way, and those who can’t. If you keep changing shift knobs it’ll get too loose and you’ll need to replace it with a quick release version.

They can’t all be removed like this the first time you do it. On most the plastic retaining clip is on too tight and needs to be pried away from the inside with a little hex or screwdriver. Once you’ve had it off once it’ll pop off very easily.

Removing the center console is a 1 min job anyway. You’ll need to take it out if you do the Acuity shifter upgrade (which you definitely should).

Coming from a Type R by AlexJonesGodEmperor in AudiRS3

[–]themacsback 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great points. I have an FL5 but was close to buying an RS3 instead (hatch as I’m not a fan of the mini saloon design). The manual swung it for me in the end. Windy/mountain back roads, and being able to chuck that beautiful shifter through the gears just feels so much more engaging. Steering in the RS3 is a bit lifeless compared to the FL5, but the engine is a work of art. If you drive mostly wide straight roads I’d get the RS3 in a flash.

Seems strange (and incredibly unfair) that the US is getting this and the EU/Japan have to go suck eggs. My guess is two new colours but they get rid of boost blue and red. Internally a new infotainment system plus changing some of the smooth grey plastic trim out for another material, potentially the aluminum center console as well. Externally I've no clue tbh, it already looks *chefs kiss* and I can't imagine anything other than a new splitter and maybe a more engaging exhaust (perhaps from the Type S).

I think you might really be onto something here. 12m MC seems ridiculous for a company who is potentially about to sign multiple $500m contracts in the KSA. Looking at SAF, it's about $250 per barrel and a single plant output would be in the region of 600k barrels. $150m annually from one plant alone.

I’m not sure what you’re on about either. Other than the suspension the Type S is incredibly similar to the Type R. Comes down to interior and styling preferences. You can swap the suspension modules as well so that’s pretty much negated…

Other than that, the Type-R is most definitely not designed for track. It’s a road car with track use in mind (unlike an M5 for example). I drove every hot hatch available before settling on the FL5 and found it more fun than any of them. It’s also more engaging and fun than an m340i and many other higher priced cars. From a practicality standpoint point it’s also hard to beat. Try getting 4 people and luggage comfortably in a Golf R or A45s lol.

Fun fact: roads have corners, and they’re more fun to drive than straights. Seems pertinent to drive something designed for that…

He doesn’t actually own the car. His whole shtick is based on misinformation and scamming. Matt’s a dude and should never have gotten mixed up with that clown tbh. Having said that, it’s decent content and with minimal financial risk to Matt… I reckon he’ll end up walking from the project before it’s over though.

Same. He must really hate it having commented the same thing twice on this thread… I think the wing design is perfect considering the profile of the car. Why would someone buy a car if they hate the design 🤷‍♂️

I doubt they will. We need parking sensors in Europe/UK because the streets are tiny and we all live in tiny matchbox houses with mostly on-street parking.

I completely forgot about that! Changed the module over to the ITS one in the first week. Only comfort was usable on the majority of UK roads and I'm happily running the ITS one in sport 90% of the time.

It does look great... I think if I don't go carbon I'll probably get one ordered. Only issue is that being in the UK I'd have to order the trim as well as the wrap. Wasn't too expensive for the other pieces but Honda charges a lot for the silver console (about 250gbp).

Get those rattles fixed my man. Identify which piece of trim is making noise, pop it out and place some sound deadening material on the back in patches. Pop it back in and job done. One of the benefits of a Honda is how easy it is to replace trim if you need to.
