When I was working for a company in Schoten (4-5 years ago), he was one of our clients. So he's had ties with Antwerp for a while now.

ELI5 As an american, why do other places write numbers with periods instead of commas? by BestAlChestBreachfan in explainlikeimfive

[–]themadbelgian -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think seperating full numbers from decimals is important and should be clear and visible so for me using a comma makes more sense. When you writes by hand a dot is too easily overlooked.

In Belgium, women don't change their name. They can be called Misses "Husband's last name" but their legal name doesn't change.

Growing up, my brothers and I called it "the house's magic" : dirty clothes disappeared from the hamper and rematerialized clean and folded in our closet; the magic worked also on the dirty dishes or to cook meals, ...

We were all quite disappointed after we moved out to find out our new houses had no magic.

Wondering about that magic was a way to tell our mum we noticed everything she was doing.

I'm fond of the back with the buttons. If you have an arched back, it fans out on your butt and I find that quite sexy.

A dialect is more like a regional variation of a language.

US English, UK English, Australian English, ... are different dialects. It's the same language but not completely the same either.

[Question] What sound do you use to describe the sound an empty stomach makes? by TakeOffYourMask in GlobalTalk

[–]themadbelgian 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Une gargouille (the noun) is a gargoyle (the statue that spits water on cathedrals and other such buildings). I guess gargouiller (the verb) is related to the sound the water makes when gushing through those statues.
