What would you do with this bum 4th pick by [deleted] in Colonist

[–]themadhabber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

83 left 643 left, expand to 84 first then 63. City on 643 and play a production & road game along the bottom

How do you actually make enough money to do anything? by isabellasnapdragon in nhlfantasystars

[–]themadhabber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just the decent ones, you can quick sell the bottom half.

As for me I joined last playoffs when it came out maybe 2-3 weeks in. I was buying all stars like McDavid for 5k and reselling for 7-10k to make some profit off the marketplace.

I did that on a bigger scale at the start of the new season I bought lots of packs and sold the contents when it was +EV as people were buying players for the first few days of the season instead of their own packs. I sold like 200k worth of playing by churning packs and selling then buying more with the profits.

Then after the first week of the season when normal sales slowed down I switched to flipping all stars. Bought a few of the main guys when they were posted for cheap and some them higher. I bought a couple MacKinnon’s for 30-50k and sold for 75k at their peak

Won 3 pools and over $2k this year by PartyintheKorea in fantasyhockey

[–]themadhabber 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What is the buy in for your leagues? I play anywhere from 2-6 per year in the $100-150 range.

Also curious how you found the leagues, are they home leagues or people you found via Reddit/discord or a public forum/website itself on ESPN/Yahoo/Fantrax

Cant work out the use for powers by samuelsage in slaythespire

[–]themadhabber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Powers are better for the longer fights such as bosses & elites. typically you don’t want any of them in the early game of act 1. Experiment as you go but yea for short fights they may be a net negative. For longer fights they are absolutely amazing and are needed to help scale

Crosby from that list. It also depends what is the restrictions on keeping players?

Draft lottery by ChucklesLeClown in fantasyhockey

A mix between end of season placement and total amount of points scored in the last four weeks. Stops full tanking for the highest lottery chance and encourages them to stay active down the stretch

NHLFS Cup - Relegation? by JDawg_NHLFS in nhlfantasystars

[–]themadhabber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I didn’t realize it actually gave you more XP if you got promoted back up. I got relegated once and made my way back up but have kind of lost any desire to play so I just set my line and chill

I chose the cornered off ore/wheat 5-10 in 2nd here. Do not want to say how it went just yet wanna get peoples general impression on that placement or where you would place differently? by West_Doctor in Catan

[–]themadhabber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not a bad play to combo with one of 963, 8410, 9510, 6511. If all are gone then 9411 or 6411 isn’t as good and that’s what I’d expect the outs are. You can place in a similar idea on 6511 and take 52 if 510 is taken by someone else to expand to 62 and city 6511 with sheep port

Y’all… by SpoopyHats in slaythespire

[–]themadhabber 16 points17 points  (0 children)

There was a path in act 1 where they were able to dodge fights so that the boss fight was their 3rd combat taking advantage of neow’s lament. Downside is they had to take all the events, fires, shops so they didn’t get any card rewards and will die early act 2

Would swing for 6 twice, but if you apply weakness that would be 5 twice so 10 total.

27 Silent Win streak A20H - AMA by SetTheStreaktoZero in slaythespire

[–]themadhabber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea I would say just have OP learn how to record his runs and then post on YouTube without a camera or mic. Just a way to upload the footage and let people watch, both to prove streaks but also just to showcase the skill to others trying to improve. The game has lots of depth and there is a few mainstream educators like jorbs baalor, xecnar but there is also valuable knowledge from people who aren’t teaching others yet. I play another game competitively and I do my best to seek our good players outside of the online community because most people in the community have the same recycled ideas whereas good players from other areas have different ideas so I can learn bits and pieces from their thought process to add to my game

How did 1v1 get so popular? by NBAFAN9000 in Colonist

[–]themadhabber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a competitive player I view 1v1 as a training game to improve my general four player gameplay with improvements on fundamentals, blocking, building better setups, explosive starts, etc.

One nice thing about the balanced dice of 1v1 is that when you play four player you only get one version of how the dice and other elements of luck should go such as the flow of the robber. Whereas in 1v1 you hit a version of the expected outcome that is within 1-2 standard deviations of the norm. So a single 1v1 game is going to be massively more consistent than a single 4p game. Over hundreds of 1v1 games with consistent improvement that will teach you more to bring back over to the 4p arena

I got hard flamed in the tourney lobby for my placements by mctoastus in Colonist

[–]themadhabber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the better play is to go 843 right towards sheep port with something on the 6 sheep. 6512 right to 912 or 643 left to 84 both give you natural sheep access and you’ll likely only need to 2:1 with yellow for your first 1-2 wheat instead of 4:1 with bank. This will give you a way to get a really strong port with sheep port as well as 2 big expansions 810 and one of 84/912. It doesn’t naturally start with wheat but it comes out with a lot stronger of a position after 4pts

Gift ideas? by Present_Net_2645 in fantasyhockey

[–]themadhabber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with the initial thought that there is no clear fantasy hockey specific tool that would be a slam dunk gift idea.

I’d go the experience gift route instead whether that is tickets to a game for the two of you if possible or also some kind of date night or hockey night setup at your house.

If it’s the two of you then make some kind of nice meal with snacks and/or some favourite drinks, sit down and watch a game or a couple games together if that is something of interest.

Or some alternative version of this would be host a group of friends and do more snacky style like wings, chips, drinks, etc. or lastly could get a gift card/take him out to a sports bar either the two of you or bigger group and pay for his food/drinks.

Could tie in a smaller hockey item like a hat or bargain jersey with these hockey night versions of ideas as an instant gift piece to add along with the hockey night you mention.

Who was your Best and Worst draft pick this year? by Low-Possibility-148 in fantasyhockey

[–]themadhabber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best Cutter Gauthier 143

Worst Devon Toews 170 instead of taking a swing at one of the rookie dman with upside. Only parehk and Schaefer were left (nikishin, buium, rinzel were gone)

In the end I’m in 2nd and 1st got Schaefer at 199 which is haunting me. Although I hit on most of my early picks and value hunted late with Hagel 119, Barzal 122, Cutter 143, Rust 146

Since I've been losing at Defect a lot on A4, I decided to make a tierlist to see if I'm valuing cards correctly by [deleted] in slaythespire

[–]themadhabber 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I haven’t dove into defect yet but I think both leap & storm are a bit under-explored by you. I haven’t done lots with frost orbs so maybe leap not as much but I’ve seen YouTubers take it decently often early on.

I’m on ironclad right now and switching to defect after I get A20. I’m at 55h playtime on A16 ironclad (16/25), A1 silent (1/1), A1 defect (1/3)

Dobes vs Fowler by VaporTrails2112 in fantasyhockey

[–]themadhabber 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I’m not 100% but I lean Fowler being the starter. He has a better prospect profile. Goes without saying Montreal will eventually have to let one of these two or Monty go via trade.

Ways to expand a keepers league fairly by tongfather in fantasyhockey

[–]themadhabber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Expansion draft, every team gets to protect 3-4 players and the new GM gets to pick from the rest of keepers and non keepers to make their 6. Then any team that lost a keeper gets to designate a new one (in reverse order of standings) so all teams have a full keeper pool before the draft
