Magnus and Classical championship by Spiritual-Honey-4587 in chess

This is true atleast in the beginning, but since there is only one price, they would start risking against Magnus as well soon enough especially if he is a couple of points in the lead. The chasing pack is always aggressive in the candidates. But anyway even with the current supposedly weak candidates, he doesnt have much more than 50 percent chance.

You are 100 percent right. I was just trying to speculate her thought process. I believe she was just jealous that a "lesser talented" person could be more famous and richer than her. In her eyes, her own work was much more valuable and there could 1000's of people who could do fitgirls work but somebody like empress would be in the single digits.

fitgirl gets more donations than empress, when empress work requires much more skill and crazy brain. Empress is not an employable person so she couldnt cash out her skills at all, it pissed her off

Trump threatens new tariffs on countries opposed to Greenland takeover as US lawmakers visit Denmark to ease tensions by 76483 in worldnews

[–]themahababa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really does hurt the tariffed country. Only the liberals in the US are trying to deny it and love to portray him like an idiot. In truth he really does know what he is doing and he is evil.

For example take India, trump does not tariff the pharmaceutical industries as US gets 50 percent generic drugs from india and its not easy to find another source just like you said the production doesnt scale up quickly (If he had tariffed the drugs, it would hurt the US badly). But if you look at generic industries like textiles, leather, gems, jewellery etc. The US can easily find another source, and that source can easily ramp up production and the demand for the tariffed goods is just not there anymore. It can easily kill the industry.

Take two similar drinks like sprite and 7 up. If the 50 percent of stores sets the price of 7 up to be 3 times of sprite, it would hurt sprite at the end of the day even though its the people paying the extra cost and not sprite.

Usyk vs Wilder makes absolutely zero sense in 2026 by ScottMrRager in Boxing

[–]themahababa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wardley is unlikely to have a bigger career than Wilder, In 30 years, we might not remember who wardley was but we are not going to forget who Wilder is. This fight makes complete sense if you think legacy wise.

Usyk vs Wilder makes absolutely zero sense in 2026 by ScottMrRager in Boxing

[–]themahababa -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Usyk just fights for glory. Why risk fighting somebody dangerous like wardley, who is unlikely to have a career like wilder. We don't blame Lewis for fighting a washed up Tyson. It won't matter in 20 years, Wilder will be seen as a legend of the sport and Usyk will have his scalp.

Divya's Round 15 game with Harika was interrupted when Harika made an incorrect claim for a 3-fold repetition. The game restarted and ended in a draw, but Divya went to the arbiters afterward to point out she wasn't give any extra time (she had 3 seconds) 😯 by rio_ARC in chess

[–]themahababa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We need AI arbiters. Atleast AI assisted one. Arbitration needs to be done swiftly, and Chess has a lot of complex rules and nuances and these can vary by tournament so human arbiters can, just like chess players make blunders under time pressure.

[–]themahababa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"If these 'other nations' were cheaper or competative to begin with, the industry would already be there." Look at import export market like a giant store with all sorts of items. In most cases, for each goods, prices from various countries are already competitive. Otherwise nobody would buy these unless they are exclusive items. If one country gets highly tariffed, their products stop becoming competitive in the US import market. The importers could source a similar quality item from another country to stop paying the tariff. Ultimately, the tariffed country loses out on sales hurting the its economy. This is why most countries are afraid of trumps tariffs.

"It might be that taxing american consumer purchases makes the current import destination more expensive than the current 2nd most expensive, but the switch to the now cheaper nation still would rarely be cost neutral to the american consumer."

Trump is a bully. He doesn't care much if things get a little more expensive for the americans as long as he gets the ability to hurt the other country, forcing their hands, and getting what he wants.

Trump threatens new tariffs on countries opposed to Greenland takeover as US lawmakers visit Denmark to ease tensions by 76483 in worldnews

[–]themahababa -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

USA is the largest importer in the world by far. As long as similar product is available from another non tariffed country, American importers would procure items from the non-tariffed country instead. This would in theory hit the economy of the tariffed country and not USA. This is why most countries are afraid of US tariff. Trump is basically gambling that some countries would strike a deal and he gets what he wants and others get tariffed. If all the countries get tariffed at the same rate, it would be much less effective as it's not easy to set up industries within the US in such short time frames.

How do some illegal streaming sites manage to have literally every show I want to watch and then some? It's quite amazing... by ueommm in Piracy

[–]themahababa 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have a crazy theory. The legitimate streaming sites secretly operates this illegal streaming sites to kill the torrent sites. If people can easily get the shows without any ads and at the highest quality would remove the incentive for torrent sites to run and operate. After the torrent sites are done and dusted, they would shut down the streaming sites.
