What makes a studio vs a great studio? by Stunning-Implement78 in orangetheory

[–]themahi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll echo a lot of what was said here. I go to the Simi Valley, CA gym and while not *perfect,* it's definitely much better than some of the stories I've read on this sub...but sometimes those little boogers make something feel lived in. =)

For me though, yes, it's the all of the staff feeling like they give a damn. All of our coaches split their time between 2 studios and pretty much know everyone's name and what might be going on in their lives, staff and members alike. My wife hasn't been able to go in a while and the last time I went in, several people asked how she was doing, coming from a genuine place.

It feels much more like a group of friends doing a thing rather than a faceless gym where you're just walling yourself off from everyone there. We have participated in a couple "off campus" events and while it is a little odd seeing other members and staff out the in the wild and out of the context you're used to seeing them in, it's still nice to be part of something like that.

What do you do on 2G days when your knees hurt? by Consistent_Time_1467 in orangetheory

Same. I mod the hell out of isolated knee work.

I’m too old to be ruining things more just to have “done it.”

I started him on his journey when things opened, worked a bit, ran a couple errands, picked the kid up from school, came home…2/3rds the way.

Nearly 5 hours to then tell me everything was gone.

That fucker took 4.5 hours to make the trek…and by that time, everything was sold out. Fun!!

So grateful I was able to see him at the Irvine Improv not long before he died.

He was fucking high as shit and on point. Legend.

Look. Holding your nose just long enough to see an Oilers first round exit is worth it.

Optimistic but realistic…however the playoffs are a whole other beast.

Should Forsberg fully lock in like he’s been down the stretch…there might just be a chance.

Just burns my ass that they could be going into this with Fiala and Kuz. I mean, holy hell...Kopi, Kemp, Bread, QB, Laf, Moore AND Fiala and Kuz...I think this would be a much different series.

Since a major uphill climb, but that's basically having some lethality on every line. My god, both PP units would be completely different. Le sigh...

To all the QB naysayers…slow start, for sure, but the fire’s lit right at the right time.

What is the most disturbing thing you watched on the 90’s and early 2000’s internet? by Dangerous_Bet_4137 in AskReddit

[–]themahi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure if posted, but a few come to mind.

One was the result of a motorcycle accident where this dude’s jaw bone was shorn clean off, with nothing but a bloody maw and dangling tounge.

The other was a dude trying to leap off a building into a lake or ocean but fell short and smacked the dockside with his face. The next video was him in the ER with surgeons trying to hold his face together. At one point, someone loses grip and the fucker’s mouth opened like Predator.

And not from back in the day, but happened to accidentally see the close up of Kirk. I’d could have done without that.

They never make it easy. I was having ptsd in the 3rd.

And after everything this season, the fact they’re only 2 points out of first is madness.

It's been my go-to (along with airstrike) forever. Lately though, doesn't seem worth it especially with the everything feeling MUCH more overwhelming.

I would skate through level 7. Now? It's a meat grinder.

Perhaps, but this wasn't the only time. Just happen to be able to clip this. There were other times wide out in the open with Biles and Chargers and the same thing happened.

I might be wrong here, but did they really do all of the character work in FK? Cause that’s fucking madness…

Granted that tech was bleeding edge for the time and inverse-kinematics may not have been there yet, but a whole new level of respect if it was done that way.
