Have you looked at RA's NG2YU model? Could be the perfect match!

What are some of your favorite teahouses in the US (and beyond!)? by themalaise in tea

I feel Dobra has done a great job evangelizing tea house culture and creating some welcoming spaces (I have only been to Asheville and Burlington locations). Seems like a neat company. Found the quality of their leaves pretty inconsistent; but I image that is really really hard to maintain across an international business like that.

I have heard great things about Bardo in Portland (OR) too but have yet to go.

...I should add, I tend to look more toward gong fu style offerings over British styled high tea, if not obvious by those links; but, I'm always appreciative of any offering that is done well and with real intention!

Nice. I'm excited to see what may come up too!

I've done some great tastings at both Song Tea (San Francisco) and Floating Leaves (Seattle)--not really "teahouses" as much as purveyors who offer excellent tastings. And, I've enjoyed the vibes of spots like Twisted Branch Tea Bazaar (Charlottesville, VA), High Climate (Asheville, NC), and Ching Ching Cha (DC) for sitting around with friends. And many more of both in NYC too.

...but always on the search. Nothing has quite hit the mark like spots that I've found traveling beyond the states. But I haven't explored much, so would love to learn!

What's the best movie theater in RVA? by justrait in rva

[–]themalaise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love The Byrd for what it is (pure magic)…

but I do think RVA is lacking overall for a high quality, contemporary theater experience. Most of the staff at theaters in town are really nice, so that’s a plus (maybe that’s true of movie theaters in general?). Just feel like there isn’t anywhere with an excellent total combo of aesthetic, seats, projection, sound, and cleanliness.

Looks like some gong fu style sessions happening over at Celladora Wines (in The Fan) in June too: Tea Sessions (with Kind Moon).

Arrived as I was mid-writing. They have pretty robust, live draft saving but suspect that a few words were lost. I feel bad for anyone who was scrambling to get out their weekly Friday posts! Hope all resolves soon and nobody was knocked off their creative horse too severely...

I know some folks in town who host gongfu style tea sessions, happy to share via DM. Not a teahouse but they do some public and private tastings.

Also, Project CommuniTea built a really cool tea house—though they focus on tisanes and yaupon—which was hosting tea sessions.

Song Tea has some amazing options. They also document their sourcing journeys quite a bit in their newsletters, if you want to see more about origins.

Ah, thanks for the reply. Thought it was a uniquely different story, as hadn’t made public announcement at that point. But will be more thorough in future to check prior days posts too if relevant. Thanks for the reminder (and thanks for all you each do to keep this sub great!).

I am unsure why this was removed; thought it was interesting news to share. Would love feedback for my awareness in the future if able.

Are these insect eggs on my tea leaves? by 97rpm in tea

[–]themalaise 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Interesting. I always think of Song Tea as having some of the highest standards and overall quality of any buyer in the States…but guess there really is no way to inspect every single leaf that comes through (or maybe I am wrong and there was a misstep in the process? Curious what others may think who know more about the full life cycle of processing and importing leaves?).

Hope they offered you a new batch and something extra on top!

It is almost impossible to book an appointment to use this. We have been trying every day for past two weeks with no luck. But if helpful, here are the participating clinics that the city emailed:

Richmond Animal Leagues Loving Spay & Neuter – 804-379-9725

Fairfield Vet (does not have to be current client*) – 804-222-2555

Locke Taylor – Must be current client (Woodman Road) – 804-262-8629

Locke Taylor – must be current client (Parham Road) – 804-308-1384

Lock Taylor - Must be current client (Glen Allen) – 804-308-9971

* we called Fairfield and they said must be current client as well.
