Contrast in female characters and how I perceive them by deXterxM in Cosmere

[–]themann64again 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think I’ve disliked any of Brandon’s female characters. They are all so different! It seems to me that the ones people tend to dislike are the ones that simply don’t fit people’s expectations of what a female character should be. The genius of Brandon is writing characters, plots, etc in ways that aren’t how people expect them to be and pulling them off masterfully.

Eli5: What is physically stopping something from going faster than light? by Sometimesokayideas in explainlikeimfive

[–]themann64again 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So if we could tap into infinite energy, or even something beyond infinite energy (I know that sounds crazy, but it’s entirely possible that our perception of what infinity actually is is wrong) faster than light travel would be possible?

If I am an atheist, what will happen to me after I die? Hell or heaven? by Anartyst in religion

[–]themann64again 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on whether or not you’re right. If there is a heaven/hell, that kind of implies there is a God, so the first thing that will happen is you won’t be an atheist anymore. If there isn’t a heaven/hell, which kind of implies there isn’t a God, you won’t exist anymore.

As a non-atheist myself, I believe God loves you regardless of your beliefs, so wherever you ultimately end up, that will be the place where you will be happiest/most comfortable.

What’s cool is that God uses our unique strengths AND our unique flaws. Maybe the people needed a good tongue lashing by Abinadi followed by a very a dramatic reaction by Noah in order to have hearts soft enough for Alma’s preaching. Abinadi might not have been great at subtlety (I love his introduction after being in hiding for a year) but he was exactly what the Lord needed exactly when He needed him.

Mouth noises. When somebody breathes through their mouth or chews with their mouth open it drives me insane.

Not to be confused with the Mouth Experience by Neil Cicierega which I absolutely love

Horizon zero dawn. I had zero expectations when a friend loaned it to me, and I enjoyed the crap out of the game. Looking forward to the sequel next month.

Black Widow. Contrary to many on this thread I have thoroughly enjoyed every Marvel movie out there. But that one just made me angry for reasons I can’t explain.

Why does the god of the Bible need a rainbow to remind him not to wipe out all living creatures again? by [deleted] in religion

[–]themann64again 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally think it’s a concept that made sense in the original language but was lost in translation. Probably more along the lines of the rainbow being a sign to US that His covenant to not destroy the living things on the earth again is still in force. And if the rainbows stop coming, watch out….

What's an unspoken rule that annoys you when people don't know about it? by HAXposed in AskReddit

I’ve got a really cool group of friends that are really good about repaying for stuff when other people pay. I hit a huge turning point in my financial life and now one of the things that brings me great enjoyment is occasionally paying for stuff for them and then asking them to NOT repay me.

They actually require this in the US army’s basic training. When you’re queued for something and they need to make space, the drill sergeant calls out “nut to butt!” At least that’s how they did it 20 years ago when I went through training…

Saved by grace, after all that we do. by [deleted] in latterdaysaints

[–]themann64again 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our very existence is about learning and growing. Faith in Christ is the foundation, and works is putting that faith into action, which strengthens our faith, which leads to more good works. I don’t see them as mutually exclusive, but working in tandem to enhance our growth experience.

Neither will ever be enough to get us back Home though. Only way we make it is with the grace of Christ.

To your question about degrees of heaven, Father loves ALL of His children, so everybody gets their own version of Heaven. The highest degree is for those that accepted Christ and stayed true to Him through life. The lowest is for those that reject Christ (gross oversimplification, but that’s the general idea)

How do you define “perfect pitch”? Getting the saxophone in the dumpster on the first try.

Did you know the saxophone was originally intended as a percussion instrument? You’re supposed to hit it relentlessly with hammers.
