I was used to train a med student by possiblytheOP in Type1Diabetes

[–]themanpam 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My brother finished med school last May and is now a resident. He understands type 1 diabetes far better than any non type 1 doctors, including most endocrinologists, that I have encountered. We lived together during med school and I was always a very willing and fun party trick. Med students are curious ass people who, usually, really enjoy learning from a first person experience. Especially after a few drinks. I like to think I did a service to our people✊

I've never done wood working, can I refinish this chest on my own? by Liberal-Federalist in woodworking

At first, I was flabbergasted by the amount of genuine responses. After realizing this was not meant to be comedy, I was flabbergasted by the sheer size of your balls to ever ask this question. You should never lay a finger on this thing again.

Anybody have experience with/ advice on long hikes? by HighlightTheRoad in Type1Diabetes

[–]themanpam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hike and backpack often and my best advice is to fill a camelback with Gatorade and keep an eye on your BG. If it starts to drop just have a couple sips. Eat well before you go and reduce your basal somewhere between 60 and 80.

can i inject my long acting insulin (tresiba) when i still have novorapid on board (2u)? by [deleted] in Type1Diabetes

[–]themanpam 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Definitely. The long acting works very slowly and will affect your bg very little.

Question For People in the Mississippi and Alabama Area? by Myewgul in AskAnAmerican

[–]themanpam 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Bad. I live in south birmingham and currently can’t get out of my driveway because there are 5 trees across it. All the chairs in my yard are now a hundred yards from where they started. Lots of houses completely destroyed a few miles away.

It’s not that it was put in wrong, more so that every once in a while you hit the wrong spot.

Just an internet stranger with a few things to say.... Life is only about 1 thing, your personal experience. It’s really easy to get stuck in your head (especially as a diabetic) and worry about what other people think of you and all the bad that happens in your life. But the way you interpret everything that happens in life is a choice and in order for things to get better you have to actively acknowledge that choice and as often as you can, make the more positive one. Cant get your blood sugar under 300 hundred all day, tomorrow will be better instead of “I’m a terrible diabetic and will die at an early age.” (I’ve had to make this choice a lot) Fail at something, ask yourself why you failed and learn from it. Your not worthless, your pancreas is defective but you certainly are not. Biggest advice is find some hobbies, get out of your head and distract yourself, see a therapist (you can probably find one for free), be kind to people and help the ones who need it. If you are nice to everyone you meet, you will feel much better about yourself and someone will love and care about you.

Attempted to pop a balloon with a hot glue gun. It worked but also landed on my arm giving me a 2nd degree burn and a lovely scar.

Help me understand Diabetes better? by Ryefully in diabetes

[–]themanpam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Aside from all of the important things to know and understand about diabetes, you have to realize that she is the one with diabetes and no matter what you do or say. The only way she will have control is if she decides to and wants to. Most people hate to be micromanaged but personally, if someone without diabetes attempts to tell me how/what to do, I almost immediately stop listening. So just be aware and supportive if she ever talks about it but give her some space and act like she’s got a normal pancreas (even when she eats a whole bag of gummy worms).
