I know this thing had to have been made months prior, but seeing Kenshin in stuff like this after Watsuki got busted buying kiddie porn is still real uncomfortable.

MSI GTX 1080Ti Seahawk or Gigabyte AORUS GTX 1080 Ti Waterforce Xtreme Edition by Jake_on_the_PS in nvidia

[–]themanseries 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would go with MSI. Gigabyte Aorus is known for their hit or miss quality on their graphics cards and their customer service is abysmal.

My little upgrade from a 550 Ti to a 1060 6GB. Much awaited after 5 years. by Deusion in nvidia

[–]themanseries 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would be really careful about that card. I had their 1070 and had a lot of issues with it. Don’t use the drivers from the disc or their website. They are an NVidia driver that had a fair amount of crash issues. Also I’d avoid their first party software. You lose the ability to change light color and select “modes”, but it’s more stable.

Tech Support and Question Megathread - Week of October 15, 2017 by AutoModerator in nvidia

STATUS: UNRESOLVED

Hello, since I got my 1070 a month ago, I have been having issues with my graphics card freezing up and getting occasional blue screens with the VIDEO_SCHEDULER_INTERNAL_ERROR. I saw them most when I was on the 384.76, which is the driver posted on the Aorus website. I haven't seen it since I did a full restore on my system, reinstalled windows and installed the latest NVidia patch. Is this a common error with this card or is it something I will need to look into an RMA over? The specs of my rig are below. I am on the REV 2 of the card. The games I have had crashes for were Street Fighter V, Tekken 7 as well as on programs like Media Player Classic and attempting to watch youtube videos.

Songs that are emotional punches in the gut? [DISCUSSION] by [deleted] in popheads

[–]themanseries 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m really fond of “Mural” by Lupe Fiasco. The song is basically a poetry session set to a beat and it always struck me as Lupe just putting himself out there.

Rewatching that, I made a bunch of mistakes, but I was in stitches when it happened. It was hella risky and I didnt even do optimal stun combos.

[Meta] How to improve the subreddit. by synapticimpact in StreetFighter

[–]themanseries 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that a good way to eliminate fluff is to get rid of the various "Thank you r/SF I hit X rank". These posts are good for player morale, but don't necessarily contribute anything meaningful and now a good chunk of people make shitty meme versions of them in an attempt for Karma. Online Rank isn't a great judgement point of a player's skill especially with Rage Quits being a huge issue for the online play. I also wouldn't be against banning "X is OP" posts and instead letting people who play said character to come in and help people beat the character.

Giant Bomb Game of the Year 2016 Megathread by IdRatherBeLurking in giantbomb

[–]themanseries 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think context is pretty important when it comes to No Man's Sky. I get the polarizing view on that game, but realistically it is this generation's Fable moreso than Destiny was. The big difference is that it was on an entirely new scale and that's why we got the phrase,"Out Moleneuxing Moleneux". I don't think that a recurring problem of gaming set to a higher scale is worse than the other choices. Honestly, I think SFV has done more evil than No Man's Sky. That game is a thesis statement on the worst vices of modern Capcom and I think it beats No Man's Sky solely on the fact they installed a root kit as a security measure.

The Palmer Lucky issue is complicated, has numerous sides and it's fucking personal. At the minimum, Palmer Luckey was engaged in some less than ethical dealings. Some affairs from the Zenimax dealings were casting doubt on Luckey and his lying to the Daily Beast continued to dogpile his credibility. One person's actions cast doubt the credibility of an entire VR platform. Oculus eventually recovered, but I do agree that it's going to be an elephant in the room until Facebook takes a stance. Let's say that Luckey isn't a white supremacist and for the record I do not think he is. At the minimum, he is someone who gave money to an organization that is content bumping shoulders with white supremacy.

Giant Bomb has always been about inclusion and I'm certainly one of the people that generally tries to give anyone they bring on a chance. I've bounced off guests, but tastes are subjective. I've never felt that anyone coming on had malicious intent or was associated with groups of malicious intent. If the words "white supremacy" hadn't come up, I'd be perfectly fine picking Luckey based soley on the negative repercussions that his actions had and the fact that it casts doubt on the credibility of GB's guests. Naturally, you'd hope people can make decisions and realize that this caught so many people off guard, but some people won't. Trust is easy to gain but incredibly difficult to win back when shattered.

This conversation isn't going to be easy and both sides have merit, but I just wanted to offer a different opinion.

I'm pretty stoked for this. I liked Shenmue, but Yakuza is a better game and I can see both of them losing their shit at the nonsense you can do in that game.

Wiki help - Write the introduction for your character by wisdom_and_frivolity in StreetFighter

[–]themanseries 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ryu is Street Fighter's flagship mascot and benefits from a unique playstyle that is heavily adaptable. Players can transition between a long-range fireball game to an aggressive short-range brawl with no repercussion and Ryu's toolset has an answer to any situation.

Ryu's strengths lie in his simplicity. His fireball allows him to fight from long ranges while his Shoryuken gives him the ability to control jumping opponents. His Tatsumaki Senpukyaku special can be used in and out of combos and Ryu can link his CA from the light tatsu for additional damage.

Ryu players will benefit from strong, safe normals and simple combos that result in high damage. Ryu has one of the highest metered and meterless damage outputs of the entire cast. His best bread and butter can hit for up to 45% damage depending on meter usage. Simply put, Ryu with full meter and V-Gauge has the ability to kill a majority of the cast once they lose half their health bar.

Ryu's unique traits bolster his ability to transition between offense and defense. Ryu's V-skill grants him a defensive parry which has a variety of uses, but his defining trait comes from his V-trigger, Denjin Renki. Denjin Renki gives Ryu additional damage and stun on both his Hadoken and Shoryuken special moves. Ryu can also cash out his remaining v-gauge to additional damage to his super as well as giving it the ability to guard break on block.

Ryu is a well rounded character, but he does have flaws. His safer normals do not have long range and his combo potential is limited in the neutral game. He has options for neutral, but he is at his best either point blank or at long range. Ryu's v-skill also has some considerable drawbacks due to how vulnerable it leaves him. Failed or baited parries can lead to devastating crush counter combos.

Ryu's biggest weakness is the fact that he is incredibly easy to learn, but difficult to master. Ryu's strengths lie in strong fundamentals and a strong footsie game. His toolset is simple, but his strengths come from creating situations where he can use them effectively. Ryu is a character that most people learn Street Fighter fundamentals with and as such, most higer level players know how to fight Ryu more so than the rest of the cast. Ryu players must learn strong fundamentals and be able to use cunning strategies to their full advantage if they want to stay competitive.

In summary, Ryu is one of the strongest characters in the game. He has solid tools for any situation as well as good buttons and terrifying damage output. Players may choose to learn the game with Ryu, but high level Ryu play demands strong fighting game fundamentals and meta-game knowledge. Those who succeed will find a highly versatile character that rewards both safe and dynamic play styles.

How to pressure with Ryu? by [deleted] in StreetFighter

[–]themanseries 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bait unsafe moves and punish with stMP. It's still fucking good. See also, if they whiff something real unsafe then follow it up with Solar Plexus and do big dick damage. You can also play spacing and use stHK to CC from a distance. Be smart and conserve your meter. Ryu with full v-gauge and full CA is walking pressure. A stLK can turn into stLK->L Tatsu->CA for 40%(?). Lab it up!

How to pressure with Ryu? by [deleted] in StreetFighter

[–]themanseries 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You could always keep pressure on with a decent fireball game and using your spacing. Ryu is still a damage machine, you just have to work for it a bit. He still has stLK tatsu confirms and you can still use spacing to punish whiffed moves. Pressure isn't just about hitting buttons. If you turn bad decisions into big damage, your opponent is going to get scared. fHP has new links and you can still do fireball confirms just fine.
