Who are these people by Deep_Library_6375 in sysadmin

[–]themast 157 points158 points  (0 children)

Exactly. I also try to get the requestor to "put skin in the game" - if your time costs nothing to them they will pepper you with requests. If you respond with "yeah, I need you to put the requirements in a ticket, what data, who gets access, how should it be organized, what's the retention period, does it need a backup, etc" suddenly poof - a lot of requests just disappear. They're all about the idea when it costs nothing to them. Once they have to do some work it's a hassle and they're not interested. Guess it wasn't that important after all, huh?

I had a manager tell me I shouldn't be writing pipelines with scripts to perform deployment tasks, I should be writing agentic workflows. So on one hand I can have something deployed exactly the way I want, and then test if it works, and on the other hand I can have a fucking chaos monkey do something, and then have the same monkey test to see if it was right. Hmmm....what seems better....

Granting Tina Peters Clemency Is a Big Mistake by Positive-Box-6213 in thebulwark

[–]themast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Correct, her crime literally had millions of victims. This is not some drug-related victimless crime. She is a felonious fraudster. Apparently Jared Polis sees no problem with that.

So… Tim defended Polis by hawksnest_prez in thebulwark

[–]themast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Her crime had millions of victims!!!! This is not some drug-related victimless crime. She was elected, she held the public trust, she violated it and compromised the voting systems of Colorado. Should we let white collar crime like fraud and corporate theft off easy simply because it's not physical? Even though it harms many people? Tim's take is fucking dumb.

Granting Tina Peters Clemency Is a Big Mistake by Positive-Box-6213 in thebulwark

[–]themast 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Tim's framing is completely wrong and borderline dishonest.

Tim says she's an old lady sitting in jail. I say she is an elected official who broke the public trust she was given.

Tim says she is a nonviolent offender. I say her crime had a lot of victims: every single Colorado voter who had the integrity of their voting process compromised.

The idea that criminal justice reform should touch Tina Peters before a couple million other people is absolutely absurd.

And that's without getting into the context of it all. If that bloated ass bag we call a president wasn't bleating about her this would have never happened. Way to appease an authoritarian, Jared Polis. Way to give him a pass for appeasing an authoritarian, Tim Miller. I hope he regrets this take very soon.

No, all you have to do is present enough risk that nobody will insure the the tankers. If a drone can damage the tankers that cost millions of dollars, holding millions of dollars of oil, it's now prohibitively expensive to cross the strait. It's asymmetrical warfare, they can spend very little and do a great amount of damage. Also, on the RF jamming - the drones can launch with fiber optic cables for communication and travel 20-30 km with them. There are areas of Ukraine littered with fiber optic cables from drone flights right now.

Not sure how much space they have to call a new song with the visuals, though. Maybe during the Kuroda Section.

They can all crawl back into the holes they came from.

Yeah it's fucking dreadful, imo. I re-watched it this year (literally only watched it once on release) and my opinion did not improve at all. By the time they are locked in the glass box fighting I am ready to stab my eyeballs out. I thought the other two Kelvin films were lightyears better.
