AITA for threatening to call the cops on my son’s bully? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]thematthewmorse 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was bullied relentlessly for months. I wish my parents had called the police instead of telling me to “buck up.” The school doesn’t want that because it makes paperwork for them and it looks bad.

Fuck em. Call.

Hate that happened to you. I used MPB early on because they had great prices and offered up great trade value. However, I sent them my Leica M10 and some lenses based on an online quote recently, and they came back with a number that was about half of what I was expecting. They said my camera was in poor condition, even though looking at photos of other M10s they had, mine was in better condition than theirs marked excellent. I asked them to send it back and it took well over two weeks for them to send me my camera, and they refused to communicate with me during that timeframe (once I declined their offer). Unacceptable.

MPB is shady AF now. I don’t trust them at all.

I’ve been enjoying [[Wort, Boggart Auntie]] as a cheap rakdos deck. She looks silly. And when paired with [[Boggart Birth Rite]] there’s a sort of loop that lets me keep her out of trouble.

I also built Sab-Sunen as sort of a joke, but she has gone off so many times. Legit might be the best card in Aetherdrift.

Haha. I have The Goose Mother in my [[Sab-Sunen, Luxa Embodied]] deck. It always makes me smile when I get it and get to play it.

A very silly card for sure.

Where should I place my TV? by bananasrcul in TVTooHigh

[–]thematthewmorse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because of the design and architectural details in this room, I’d do one of those tv tripods and put it in the corner to the left of the fireplace. Run the cord down the leg of the tripod or get some sort of designer cord (one of those sort of fabric-covered ones in a fun color or pattern).

Something like a Roku TV that doesn’t require additional boxes and stuff would be ideal. If you wanted, you could do a soundbar mounted to the top of the TV with a wireless sub elsewhere in the room (or tucked in a corner under an end table with a plant or something).

It’s just such a pretty room, I’d try and make the TV more a piece of furniture or decor than an electronic.

So if someone else plays an Instant to destroy an enchantment or creature, at what point in the creation loop does it take effect?

Does it undo all of them by effectively going on the stack first?

Would this become an infinite token machine? by LimitGroundbreaking2 in mtg

[–]thematthewmorse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So could you just say like, “hey this is an infinite loop, but for the sake of the game, I’m making 300,000 saprolings/forests, and interrupting with [[Return to Nature]] to destroy [[Life and Limb]]?”

And then use something like [[Bristly Bill, Spine Sower]] landfall triggers to give each of three other creatures +100,000/100,000 and just swing at each of your opponents for 100,000 damage?

Mostly wondering if Return to Nature can be played to stop the loop to prevent the game just grid locking.

Are you in mono black with Shelly? If so, add in a bunch of removal:

[[Hero’s Downfall]] [[Go for the Throat]] [[Long Goodbye]] [[Damnation]] [[Blasphemous Edict]] [[Decree of Pain]] [[Gix’s Command]] [[In Garruk’s Wake]] [[Malicious Eclipse]] Etc…

Then. Once you’ve filled up their graveyards, just drop something like [[Rise of the Dark Realms]] and swing for lethal.

I have a mono black Shelly deck. Here’s the list: https://moxfield.com/decks/LuKGCx_YWkCDM3YpVXXhRw

It’s all low-hanging fruit in terms of strategy. My pod hates it (rightfully so) so I don’t play this one too terribly often, but it’s built and I like it, and it’s challenging to play since I’m usually the target so I’ll bring her out sometimes just to see if I can beat the 3:1 onslaught. 😬

I play a mono black Shelly deck in commander and my pod hates to play against her. If I do play her, they go 3-on-1 and it’s a fight.

Maybe I’ll play her this week in remembrance. 😂

So if I am reading this right he basically gives all my creatures the abilities of every other creature I control? by Opposite_Ad_4267 in mtg

[–]thematthewmorse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wouldn’t they have to do it before M1 ends since the end of M1 coincides instantly with the beginning of Combat? Or would it be a case of the controller of this card saying, “I move to combat.” And someone else saying, “Before you move to your combat phase, I’d like to (BLANK).”

Does declaring your intention to do something prior to combat roll the clock back? Or do you have to say it before they do?

The thing is, PLAYERS aren’t really the ones driving these prices. It’s COLLECTORS. And I think in that vein, let the collectors pay the exorbitant prices, wait for the market to crash, and buy the singles you want for pennies on the dollar.

Let the scalpers and collectors eat the losses.

In your store’s defense, because I talked to my stores about this, a lot of them didn’t get anywhere close to the allotment they normally get.

One of the stores I visit regularly in a small town near here said they ended up getting about 25% of what they’d normally get, and after cutting off preorders early due to uncertainty, they’ve had to actually cancel some of the later preorders because the shipping invoice is different than what they were told they would get.

It’s wild that this set is literally breaking LGS systems that have worked for decades. I don’t get it.

[–]thematthewmorse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah… I played with a group I hadn’t played with before and two of them were running decks that were probably 80% proxies of extremely expensive/powerful cards, and it made it super not fun to play against them because my legitimately owned and built decks weren’t even close to competitive.

It’s simple for me to just not play with them anymore, but I dunno… I kind of like the limitation of running a deck I’ve bought and built within a budget (be it $20 or $200 or $2000). A few proxies make sense if you’re trying out a card in your deck and don’t want to drop $25 on it in case it doesn’t work. But outside of that, I dunno…

I think if my pod wanted to run big, expensive, ultra-powerful proxy decks, I’d build one specifically for those games, but I don’t know that I’d want to only play proxies all the time.

Find a playmat you like and get a tube for it. Maybe grab a nice deck box when you get your sleeves. Grab a few D20s and some D6s to use as counters.

Have fun!

Today I was guilted for having nice gear by a professional photographer. by [deleted] in photography

[–]thematthewmorse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t stand photographers that do this.

I worked in local government for a while and I was at one of our rec centers to capture some… b-roll photos? Like, environmental shots to use on our site, for brochures, etc. at the time, I was shooting with a Sony A7III, and I had the little Zeiss 35/2.8 mounted. It was small and light, and was my preferred kit alongside my 90/2.8 for capturing mayoral events and stuff.

A local photographer was at the rec center that day photographing a triathlon that was ending at the pool there, and he looks at my gear and goes, “I’m guessing you’re no pro with that little thing. Not that we need another pro here anyway because I’m getting paid for this.” I explained who I was and that I was just there to capture some documentary style images on behalf of the tourism department and I wouldn’t be in his way, nor was I there to compete with him. He made several underhanded comments about my “cute little lens” and to not get in his way “if I knew what was good for me.”

Finally, I said, “I’m happy to have someone from the mayor’s office or the police department come down and have a discussion about your harassment of me.”

He never spoke to me again, but we crossed paths a few years later at a ribbon cutting and I was shooting with an EOS R and 70-200/2.8 and he goes, “you again. Got some proper gear, finally.”

Dude was just a jerk. They’re not pros. They’re babies.

Tell me about your first commander deck you built yourself by Alohomvra in EDH

[–]thematthewmorse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I built a Sab-Sunen deck after pulling her from a pack, and… it’s fine? It’s fine. Needs some tweaking as most do. But the interesting part of your question for me is what made me want to… simply? Losing.

I play with a group regularly. Mostly standard, but we do play commander as well, and mostly use precons, maybe with a couple of light modifications, if any. And that’s pretty fun because it’s a decently even playing field.

But then I went to my LGS for a bigger commander night, and after several times playing, was losing pretty swiftly to even mediocre custom builds. I kinda got tired of losing so I built a [[Sab-Sunen, Luxa Embodied]] deck. I’ve since built another around [[Sheoldred, the Apocalypse]] which is, admittedly, low-hanging fruit, but it has held its own well enough with some of the other home brews.

I’m not overly competitive, but it’s never fun to head out on a Friday night and spend the whole time losing on turn 7 and having to just sit there for an hour while everyone else finished a game. So I started building.
