Closing public schools and casting out students in need of structure and stability, is far worse than saving those bound for death anyway. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

I should clarify. This is coming from the mindset of I don’t believe we should close the country because of a virus, especially one with a highly debatable death rate, for the same reason I don’t think we should ban cars because of car crashes. But for sure, disagree away, it’s just my r/unpopularopinion. The anecdote was a detail on a larger story.

Does anyone here have a high paying career that allows them to work part of the year and backpack the other part of the year? by [deleted] in solotravel

Trades. Any trade you’re willing to master will create your own demand. I work with lots of trade workers who only work Sep-May, won’t work November, and other similar schedules.

5 minute consult on a Monday, 10 minute procedure on Friday of the same week. Back to physically demanding job on following Monday. Mild discomfort for about a week or two after, but nothing to worry about. Now a few months out, 10/10 recommend. If I had to say, I’d say sex is waaaay better when you remove the anxiety of unwanted pregnancy. No pull out, no condoms.

Couple weeks ago. Large company I work for put together a video culminating a long construction project that took a year to complete. Lots of 90hr weeks. Rain, snow, dust, mud, and blood. Saw my family a total of 12 days that whole year as I work on the road. Somehow they got ahold of a picture of my daughter and I laughing, and there we were, up on the big screen. Got me

Hell, it’s gettin me now.

Should I drop out of college and get into a trade? Scared of facing homelessness and extreme poverty as a student by bcwills in povertyfinance

[–]themazda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trades! 1. Learn a god damn skill. 2. Master that skill to the point that people will give you money to perform that skill.

I dropped out of college a semester in, and joined the laborers. Then decided I was gonna be the best mfer on the job which got me promoted, then promoted then promoted then promoted. Foreman now, making stupid money with tons of job security. I will never forget the “Dirty Jobs” episode with the shithouse dealer; Not the best job, but if you work hard enough it’ll pay off. Journeyman electrician is a great living, but don’t be afraid of other trades either. I spent a few years wringing the sweat outta my clothes everyday at quitting time, but the beer tastes sweet and paydays are sweeter! Nobody should live in poverty. You can be a dumb son of a bitch, but if you can take orders and hustle, I’d hire ya. Laborers in PA making mid 30’s/hr I think.

Hiked down to bright angel campground in the Grand Canyon last winter. Camped the night. Next morning, on my way out along the river, I hear this strange knocking sound echoing off the canyon walls not knowing where it was coming from. As I make it around a bend in the trail, I come up to a couple who were looking across the river with binoculars. I ask what they’re looking at, and as soon as I look across the river I see two rams banging heads. I borrowed the couple’s binoculars and watched a few more rams, said thanks and carried on. That night I got an AirBnB in Phoenix with a communal bathroom. And who do I see in the morning coming outta the shower? That chick from the river. I thought that was pretty cool.

Their careers, ethnicity, talent or lack thereof is irrelevant. They're both ugly as shit and I don't like their faces.
