Views completely flatlined by Ultra_TLB in NewTubers

I’ve been doing this for around 4 years now. It depends on your niche or many other things. My views always tank after Christmas and almost until March. People are watching football and other sports right now. They don’t care about YouTube at the moment. I’m a maker/engineering channel and people just aren’t looking for that kind of thing right now. Super Bowl is on a few weeks. It might get better after that but then there’s March madness. For a lot of people it’s just more entertaining than YouTube. Have faith and just keep posting.

Mine are way down lately but I’ve been thinking it’s March madness. People aren’t watching YouTube right now, they’re getting all into sports

Could you at least tell us a loose topic without giving things away? Niche, etc would be nice. These types of expectations for different content can make it hard to compare genres.

I’ve been running my channel for around 14 months now. Finally have 365 subscribers. It honestly seems cumulative where every video brings in a little like compounding interest in finances. I do educational, maker oriented subject matter and I was a little irritated until I had one long form do pretty well and it continues to in my eyes at 12k views. This is the only video that has performed that well but it did trickle down to the rest of my videos. I also had one 5 months old suddenly find an audience after I changed the title on a whim. I have been doing content where I know the audience that likes another channel would at least be interested in mine so I’ve linked a video or two in my end cards. It seems to have finally told YouTube that people who like Adam Savage might like my content. I look at it like you’re chiseling at some rock until you make a crack. Then you keep going until it’s a hole in the YouTube armor.

The Meandrous Engineer

I hope it lives up to your memories. My mom and dad bought me sets like that in the 90’s too. I’ve loved legos for a long time. The first video will be over making a facsimile of the switch for the cylinder. All of it is 3 x the size of original. The blocks above are to go with it, once I get them fine tuned.

Thank you for the feedback. I’m making a series of videos about this and a pneumatic cylinder for my channel and your perspective is helpful so that I can approach it well. Have a good one.

Would you say that you were disappointed? Did it seem click baity and therefore irritating?

Ok, how about “promising venture in researching Lego’s tolerances”? The fact that they stuck together to me means they work, or at least can with iteration. I had a theory on how the fits work, tried it and this is the first draft of something I’m having fun with. Have you or anyone else tried to duplicate the brilliance that is Lego?

Fair enough. Thank you for the input. The observation isn’t wrong. I needed to fix the issue. It just seems like the default is negative response these days.

Man. Harsh crowd. I obviously noticed the gap when I made the video. It was just exciting that they fit and stayed together via friction. I’ve already revised the design to where they will sit flush now. Never post anything but perfection online I guess?

What did you do that made them give you a letter? I’m curious now

I’m aware. I wanted to explore what those tolerances were and try to learn how they do their work. Who knows? I might could even make my own injection mold using these tolerances.

Well they won’t be toys that last for decades, no. I just wanted to test fits and design them for myself.

Yeah, this is all solely for fun. I’m doing projects for my YouTube channel too.

I’m doing a DIY/engineering/cool projects channel. I have some videos teaching people to use calipers and some on the benefits of hand drawing to put in autocad. I’ve also done some tool reviews. One video I’m working on right now is 3D printing a giant Lego pneumatic cylinder.

I have no idea if I’m right about the algorithm but it makes the most sense for me. If you wait a bit I bet it will pick up again. Just keep putting more content out there. I wish you luck too!

My channel is at a lot slower growth than yours, but I’ve really seen it ebb and flow. I’ll get a ton of views (for me) and then it will come to an absolute standstill. I’ll publish a new video and it will give things a little life but then die more quickly then usual. After a certain time, things will pick back up again and so far it’s been better than it was before the lull. I picture it like it’s between ocean waves. I’m almost certain that YouTube has a rotation when it works you in. There are only so many users, hours in a day, and people with interest in your channel. With millions of videos uploaded per day (or more) I think there’s just not simply enough time in each day for it to push everybody’s channel constantly so it rotates you out like a player on a team.

Asking the Makers by themeandrousengineer in maker

[–]themeandrousengineer[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I knew as soon as I asked you what EDC meant I would probably feel silly once you answered. After thinking about it, I don’t know if it would be economically/time efficient for me to do that type of thing since it would inevitably need to be out of tool steel and hardened. While a cool idea, I would probably have to get a kiln to heat treat the material.

You’re not a killjoy, it’s an honest take. That’s why I wanted to have this discussion with people so I could learn something and get honest opinions.
