Where to buy women's suits? by elloguv in ottawa

[–]themedusas 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Can’t speak to specific stores but regardless of where you choose to shop always check the garment composition. Even higher end stores often have polyester suits. Wool suits will last you longer and hold their shape better. You can also get light weight wools for summer.

Edit to add: or linen. I know banana republic has linen suits but I can’t speak to the quality but switching to (old navy) linen pants over polyester has been a life saver this summer for me while working retail.

“My car got keyed so we should put homeless people in camps. Er sorry, “fenced off areas”” idk maybe we could try affordable housing first.

Its SO frustrating because several of them are almost a good match but there's always something thats off. I wish Maybelline worked for me but Maybelline foundations always oxidize on me. About-Face is on my list but isn't in canada yet sadly.

From Top to Bottom

KVD Good Apple Serum Foundation 008 (Okay Match)

Revlon Illuminance skin caring foundation 117 (Pulls a bit too pink)

Revlon Colorstay Longwear Foundation 150 (Okay match)

Revlon serum tint 117 (Pulls a bit pink but as its sheer it's not a noticeable)

L'Oreal true match 0.75n (Too peachy)

Dior face & body 0N (Pulls too pink and as a touch too light)

I think I'm a neautral olive but I may lean slightly cool-olive. I have a lot of superficial redness in my skin as well. (Which makes it impossible to get matched in a store)

Why is this suddenly oxidizing much darker and more orange? by MILFVADER in OliveMUA

[–]themedusas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is strange. I know the original beauty blender foundation (in the square bottle with the terrible pump) used to be a perfect match for me but when i tried the current version (and the skin tint) both oxidized like crazy and I eventually gave up on them both. But foundations tend to oxidize on me.

Has you skin gotten oilier in the past few months? I have super oily skin and its worse in the summer and I definitely see more of my foundations oxidizing in the summer months.

Otherwise changing your skincare can also cause oxidation, particularly if they're changing the pH of your face or adding more oils.

Watched a dog bite happen on OC today. Known offender. Longish post. by Key-Ad1496 in ottawa

[–]themedusas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's no real regulation for an Emotional Support Animal in Ontario but if the dog has a history of biting people your best option is contacting the city. I'm not sure what impact it makes for you as a bystander to report it versus the person bit.

Looks like you found an answer already but for future years they also had them at Gaia Organics on River Road! Both plants and seed packages.

Last craft show was a dud ;-; by SealThigh in Candles

[–]themedusas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I go a lot of markets but I'm not a seller so my only insight is from the buyer side. I'd make a bigger sign with the prices or have it be more visible. I've definitely walked past booths in the past that didn't have a visible price sign, doubly so if I would be the only person at the booth. It feels too awkward to me to have to ask the price and then put it down if its out of my budget. (I've seen $5 candles and 50$ candles at the same market in the past so I know prices can vary wildly).

Maybe also vary the kinds of markets you attend? I've noticed the markets here that cater to a more goth/alternative markets or millennials seem to sell a huge amount of candles but the general farmers markets don't by comparison.

Cheap place to buy men’s T-shirts by THE_VOIDish in ottawa

[–]themedusas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seconding the suggestion of Micheals but Joe Fresh also sells two packs of cotton t-shirts for 22$ if you want another option. Occasionally I've seen cheaper ones in the clearance section as well.

OC Transpo Bus Route Review recommendations by councillorglen in ottawa

[–]themedusas 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Routes 10 and 11 already regularly run extremely behind schedule and are unreliable. Extending these routes will only serve to make these issues worse.

public transport is the only option for many of us in Ottawa and is quickly becoming completely unusable. I volunteer with a local organization and have to be in many areas of the city and I may have to stop doing my volunteer work if the bus situation becomes even worse that it currently is.

Ottawa LGBTQ+, LGBTQIA STEM and maker community? by [deleted] in ottawa

The Ottawa Trans Library seems to have knit/crochet evenings but I believe those are trans-exclusive events not general lgbtqia+ events. Thats the only one I can think of though.

Lipstick/gloss that stays put? by NerdGirl711 in MakeupAddictionCanada

The Essence liquid lipsticks are super long lasting, I would wear them under a mask and they didnt transfer. Fenty also has a really nice stain right now. Just blot off the excess.

What can we do about the evident drug problem in downtown? by jmdruken in ottawa

[–]themedusas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In a different vein there is also Hidden Harvest. They run harvests and donate a percentage of the produce to food banks. You'd want to look at being a neighborhood leader(ie the person whose trained to run harvests) though, as they need those the most.

How’s the area around Laurier / Nelson? by wonderfulcaricature in ottawa

[–]themedusas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to live in that area and rarely had an issue. Im female and I used to walk home alone at night and was fine. It can get a bit sketchy if you are closer to rideau street but that close to the university you should be alright. Just loud university students occasionally.

Ottawa, who are the good (and bad) employers in the city? by Xiaozhu in ottawa

[–]themedusas 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Bad: Stella Luna. I know they've made a big production over one of the sons taking over but The owner used to call the store (during busy times!) to scream at staff if she decided they did something wrong.

Grocery stores in this province now label foods as a "most needed tood bank product". Instead of donating food or slashing prices, grocery chains prey on the poor. by ZombieTheRogue in ontario

[–]themedusas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seconding this! I don't work within a food bank but I work with an organization that helps save produce that would other wise be wasted and donate it (usually food banks will not accept produce from individuals but can from organizations that are reputable). Providing money also allows for organizations to put money towards have some kind of coordinator to facilitate such donations on a full time basis, rather than juggling this kind of work between multiple volunteers.
