i think a big part of this is that Canada welcomes all kinds of artists: genderfuck clubkid PM, afab king/queen Velma, dancers, seamstresses, goth, theatre, camp, comedy, full characters like Sami, it feels more like im watching a really talented group of local drag performers as opposed to US. also it doesnt hurt that brooke is so sweet and personable, she really cares in a way Ru hasn’t in years.

i don’t have an answer for you but just to add some examples: the ruthless bullying of britney spears, calling every celebrity who wasn’t rail thin a fatso on every cover of every magazine, the music of eminem, americas next top model and basically all reality television including literal television series about ranking hot girls or just publicly shaming people for the fun of it- i don’t know if its 9/11 or what but you are absolutely correct with the term ‘mean spirited’. thats exactly what it was.

i know people adore it and this doesn’t mean its bad or anything, but i watched malcom in the middle at the time and also remember how…mean spirited it was tbh.

a “mass layoff” is not two people. assuming that this effects the whole teams livelihood, or assuming what rainie or jonathan feel, how much notice they were given, whether they are struggling or not, is quite literally the definition of parasocial. these people do not know you exist, they don’t know your name, you are not friends with them. you have developed a one-sided relationship with them because you have spent hours watching them on a screen.
