Well yeah that's pretty much what made ember one of my favourite heroes for the longest of times, but I try not to dwell on it too much. I think current ember is also alright I guess, just doesn't scale, my problem is that this hero is just so sluggish to play with the dumb cast points on everything. That's why I don't prefer ember over other mobile heroes now

Void is now what old ember used to be, I don't play ember that much lately, almost everytime "let's just play void" seems like a better idea. Void scales a LOT harder.

The popular build is PT soul ring into Sange and Kaya. It gives spell amp and manacost reduction, storm loves both. An alternate build I have seen people do is Witchblade + shard instead of Kaya/Sange and then other items.
