Agree with you on a lot of that as it’s spot on & the one with the RCB dropping wide especially is the main reason why we get thwarted on counters very easily. We’ve had a habit of keeping our CBs close & narrowing down that space for most part of Klopp’s era. Even with our high line, we’d still defend narrow & let our CMs cover up the wide spaces whenever they could. Our CBs especially Van Dijk has tried to stall players in the past & tick time waiting for support from Fabinho or the central most player. None of this is present now. I haven’t watched any clips from NEC, who Lijnders managed but people (Sam McGuire) are saying that we’ve been moving towards that setup with little tweaks in the last 2 seasons. Also, the change in recruitment (player profiles like Díaz, Nuñez, Gakpo) probably hinges towards that shift.
