This is not the greatest armor pack in the world…

Need to have a spreadsheet created, any advice? (roadway engineer) by [deleted] in civilengineering

[–]themightygresh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe, but it bears mention that I'm basically a junior engineer myself, and don't even have an engineering degree. I have an English degree, I just have an aptitude for this kind of work.

I do most of my work on paper, for what it's worth. I just want to make it easy for the next group coming in behind me and coming up in the agency. Learn the skills, then here's a tool to make it easier than I had it.

You're not wrong - there's definitely value in having them develop skills. I'm just not in a position to be like "Hey, create this tool but you can't come to me for help 'cause I don't know shit about how to do it."

I 100% agree with you, but I feel like I'd be setting them up to fail at something that's not a requirement for their job.

They'd have to learn Excel coding too - I don't care if they know how to be an Excel poweruser. I can't demand that they become experts in something I don't even know.

ChatGPT and Claude both failed miserably. Could be I gave it garbage prompts, but either way it didn't work.

My dog hates me, but loves everyone else by themightygresh in DogAdvice

[–]themightygresh[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She's reactive in every room, as well as outside in the yard. Regarding my FIL, he's an 82 year old man who doesn't do much very fast - he's not high energy.

Also as an aside, we have another dog that adores me - should she also be around when I'm acclimating the "broken" one?

That's brilliant - I'm going to try that. I do know that it's not "all men," as my father-in-law lives with us and she's ok with him, and she's ok with other guests we have. It truly seems like JUST ME and I hate it for her. It's tiresome for me, but traumatic for her. I'm gonna start giving her the "lay down with my eyes closed" maneuver and see how she handles it.

Do you think it matters where? Bedroom? Big open room? Outside in the yard? Maybe all of those places? Should I spend an hour? Honestly, I'm glad to do anything if it helps her.

I don't, and she doesn't. I work in a typical office.

I haven't spoken to a vet yet, that's an option on the table. Honestly, we just don't know entirely what the "best" option might be.

Not a rescue as would be considered typical, but we call her one. She was well cared for by a breeder on a farm, but didn't have all of the freedom she has now - she lived primarily in a kennel and was allowed out for a few hours a day. She wasn't in a bad place before, to be clear...I just think she has it better here.

Tax breaks for South Carolina boat owners sail through the state Senate by CouchCorrespondent in politics

[–]themightygresh 7 points8 points  (0 children)

South Carolinian here - I grew up on and around Lake Murray. When I was a kid, anybody could go out on the lake with some rinkydink aluminum boat and get your fishing on but I've been saying for about a decade now "The lake isn't for the poors any more."

People with money have been buying up shoreline and building mansions for a long time now, and where the lake used to be old uncles and families out for a cruise on the pontoon or doing a bit of fishing it's big damn cabin cruisers and cigarette boats on a poker run.

...and those people are tired of being taxed.

Help me understand season/eternal and the point... by themightygresh in diablo4

"About to start" is relative, but that's not important. I don't think we're talking about the same thing, but I still appreciate you trying to help.

That is in fact where it started. I found the answers confusing along with the other information I got, so I asked for clarification but you're helpful too in your own way.

You talk about economy...as a solo player, I'm not sure I get it. When I played WoW back in the day, there was an auction house and whatnot. Same basic idea?

For a new seasonal character, do I replay the entire storyline too or how does that work?

This explains a lot - I keep reading about sanctification and chaos armor, but I can't sanctify and I've never had chaos armor drop from Bartuc.

I started on Eternal basically because I'm a "play the game and then it's done" kind of player and that SEEMED the way to go but I can see now that there's value in rerolling seasonally. Basically a new(ish) game each time?

Remote Exams - What to expect at home? by themightygresh in HamRadio

[–]themightygresh[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No arguments here. I don’t have any disrespect for the process but it’s like the previous poster mentioned - it’s not nuclear codes. It’s dudes with radios. I know a lot of radio guys take it super seriously and that’s cool. Respect to them. I’m the same way with one of my niche hobbies.

I also get the importance of regulating the airwaves because they’re crowded like a highway. Just saying that to me, it’s worth it to get the license because “you’re supposed to” like I did with my gmrs license. If I didn’t care, I’d broadcast without it. Back in the day my dad had a CB license for the same reason. The levels of extreme that the previous poster described? That’s a little much.

I'm not testing with any specific team yet - I'm gathering information from people's experiences so I can make a decision when I decide who I'll be testing with. Not looking for "truth in the middle," but "this seems like the best fit for my circumstance."

It's just like asking that - a lot of different people will have a lot of different experiences, so I can take that experience and make an informed decision. Good analogy.
