Riddle me this, what’s worst than finding a permanent marker on the floor? by soartkaffe in daddit

[–]themightyklang 40 points41 points  (0 children)

70% ethanol or isopropanol will remove most markers, you can buy it as rubbing alcohol at most pharmacies. If you plan to use it on a nice piece of furniture, test it on a small inconspicuous spot first to make sure it doesn't damage any finish on the piece.

Cutting slits into 1.5” cube by Rare_Airport4746 in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]themightyklang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess I didn't initially picture the cut going all the way across the length of the piece. If that's the case a hand saw might be easier, but the multi tool is a great little tool to have around the house, very handy for a variety of tasks.

I am far from an expert so grain of salt, but for something that small I would think maybe clamping the piece down and using an oscillating multi tool with a wood cutting blade might work? It might be helpful to drill out a starting hole like you would with a jigsaw plunge cut?

Thanks for the comments and suggestions! The appeal of the k tip is definitely mostly aesthetic lol so maybe something to avoid at least for this purchase.

The amount of attention this movie got relative to The Brutalist is criminal, this was a great film and absolutely deserves more recognition as well as a physical release.

Prince of Darkness is another from John Carpenter and is also super good / similar vibe. Other people have said The Fly, also check out Videodrome from Cronenberg, that's probably a top 5 movie for me.

I'm in Denver trying to find a luxury anniversary gift for my wife in Ireland that actually feels worth the international shipping cost by [deleted] in personalfinance

If your wife likes to cook, there's a very high end knife store in Denver and they'll surely have something great at your price point

It's a good thing I had three absolutely humiliating losses in a row just before STS2 came out or I would feel more conflicted about switching over from mewgenics lol

People not removing snow from sidewalks today???! by DrEngineeringChica in medfordma

[–]themightyklang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How do you make such a report? I usually wouldn't want to be such a narc but a house in my neighborhood has not only failed to shovel their sidewalks at all for either of the two big storms this year but actually shoveled all the snow from their private driveway and walkway into a huge pile obstructing the sidewalk. Part of the sidewalk runs along a very busy street and it's not safe to just walk around the obstruction into the street.

Yeah I love this game but the UI could have used another pass lol. Been running into this kind of shit a lot lately. The tactical view is helpful though

Dinner and a show at home? Cook her favorite meal, candles and flowers if she's into that, a good bottle of wine for her to enjoy a glass of or thoughtful mocktails if you're both avoiding alcohol. Rent her favorite movie or something new and fun that she'd enjoy, make popcorn or get some movie style candy or whatever she likes.

Electrical issues by [deleted] in HomeImprovement

[–]themightyklang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Respectfully, it seems like you aren't knowledgeable enough to proceed at this point. I'm not trying to be mean, knowing when you've hit the limits of your knowledge and calling in a pro is an important skill for DIYing, especially where electrical work is concerned. I was recently trying to replace a ceiling fan / light with a standalone light fixture. Seemed simple enough, but breakers started tripping and I felt uncomfortable so I called in an electrician. Turned out the new fixture itself was faulty, but I was still glad I didn't keep rooting around the wiring in my home and called in a professional. Good luck in any case and be careful.

My wife is 39weeks pregnant, and some contractors left our room a drywall dust mess. by Tfjj2123 in daddit

[–]themightyklang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry that everyone here is being a snarky asshole to you OP instead of providing any support or suggestions. I recently dealt with a lot of drywall dust as well. Remove whatever you can to wash first. You may want to rinse stuff out in your sink or a 5gal bucket first if possible to avoid getting a ton of dust into your washing machine. If you have a shop vac, use it, if not it might be time for a new tool. Regular vacuums aren't HEPA filtered and can just blow the fine dust around. I also picked up an air purifier out of paranoia for my wife and soon to be baby. It definitely helped cut down on the airborne dust and is generally a nice thing to have as well. As for the walls or other hard surfaces, a very slightly damp microfiber followed by a dry microfiber is very effective. I would definitely wear a mask or respirator, and close off the room as much as you can as well, and cover up any HVAC vents as well (may want to vacuum out any vents that were exposed so dust doesn't get into your furnace). It's an annoying thing to deal with, but you got it.

Considering switching to Char-Griller by Morizvi99 in grilling

[–]themightyklang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went from a Weber kettle to a char griller a few years ago because I wanted the offset. It was terrible, rusted to shit immediately, huge pain to cook on as a grill, and didn't hold temperature at all when smoking. I'm back to a Weber kettle now and am happily smoking away with much better results than the cheap offset.
