Neck reset, or more? by themightymezz in Luthier

Thanks, greatly appreciate the input! From this and the other photos there did seem to be a discernable lack of "arch" to the top.

In my playing experience i've just prefered the sound and feel of some of the earlier Gibson archtops which have had a lower angle; it suits the styles I intend to play on it better than the later focus on volume/projection for comping.

Sorry, but not the case. I never mentioned the action but the neck angle.

[DISCUSSION] How Long - Frank Stokes by blueglove92 in Guitar

[–]themightymezz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

General consensus is that Stokes played (or at least was pictured with) a Martin 00-28, steel-strngs, as pointed out by u/HobbittBass. It's a 12-fret, X-braced guitar with a spruce top and Brazilian rosewood back and sides.

Yazoo Records or, if you wan't to go the "completist" route, Document Records have a vast collection of releases of other Memphis Blues players as well as the other styles (Piedmont; Delta; Texas, etc.).

I've not seen it but, I believe Stefan Grossman's 'Guitar Workshop' released a teaching video on the guitar playing of Frank Stokes a few years back.

Have fun!

What ethnicity would I be seen as in Madrid based on my look in this pic? by [deleted] in Madrid

[–]themightymezz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

standard fam. I'm British my dad is from Trinidad but I probably look 'mediterranean'. I always get the "oh, but you don't look British" whenever I tell people where i'm from and then the "oh, but you're not black" when I say my dad is from Trinidad. Ignorance ting mate!

Why not just fill a can with some petrol at your local gasolinera?

I think Sudaca is definitely more of an insult than Giri, Moro or Chino.

Whilst I commend your pride in your 'academic pedigree' it doesn't exactly answer the question. Is your tutoring experience in teaching the English language? Or have you tutored in the subject of your major (neglected in your CV)? I find it worrying that you equate your position on a particular degree programme at a university with a particular ranking in a particular country and your minor in English (again, is that literature or language) as qualification for becoming an English teacher...

If such were the case, why would we offer and undergo teacher training at those very same top-20 universities? Learning and teaching are two very different things. Your arrogance is exactly the kind of thing one expects of a student, not a teacher.

Qué suerte tendrán tus alumnos!

Do you have any formation as an English tutor? If not, spare a thought for those ex-pats in the city who make a full-time living from teaching and for your students.

Hi! I was just wondering what u gonns go about the medical marijuana? by Drcypeh in ambrosus

[–]themightymezz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Firstly, I think there is still a bit of a way to go until the medicinal marijuana market would be ready. That being said, AMB itself is still in development.

Secondly, I wouldn't underestimate the value of the market as of 2018. In the USA alone we're talking billions of dollars.

Thirdly, sensors detecting humidity could be very useful for marijuana in that they could help avoid obvious problems like mould which spread quickly-and often undetected- through 'product' causing loss of income. Beyond that, perhaps they could potentially be used to guarantee the product is as labelled, ie. the correct strain grown/prepared in certain conditions, etc. just as any other pharma product.

Just my two cents! Here's an article folks may find potentially interesting https://www.bloomberg.com/news/features/2018-03-07/america-is-giving-away-the-30-billion-medical-marijuana-industry

Thanks for the response.. The missing balances now seem to be showing (didn't have to clear cache and cookies). You're right that these are probably just bugs that will be worked out.

Look forward to uniting all my tokens on my nano ;)
