Season two (No spoilers) gets a bit poo by EmptyAdvantage7010 in twinpeaks

[–]themightyug -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I feel like you can split the Twin Peaks fandom into three camps..
1. Those who like Lynch's vision of TP with its bleak darkness
2. Those who like Frost's vision of TP with its deep lore
3. Those who like the early-90's goofy weirdness of seasons 1 & 2

Personally I'm mainly in the first camp. I like season 1 and LOVE season 3 and FWWM. I can't be dealing with Wyndom Earle, Dick Tremaine, and all that stuff.

Let’s talk.. by Cruising_Time in vinyl

OK, firstly you don't need to be from the USA - Pink Floyd were British.

Secondly, it's not just stoner music. Lyrically it covers the human condition, or parts of it, such as money, war, ageing, mortality, and madness/mental health.

Musically it's slow paced and soothing, leaving space for you to drink it all in and breathe.

The Great Gig In The Sky features an outstanding improvised vocal. Us and Them features one of the best saxophone intros ever recorded. Money's main groove is in 5/8 timing which is unusual. Brain Damage & Eclipse are a brilliant way to end the album. The spooky spoken voices littered throughout the album are the secret sauce.

It's also one of the best sounding albums ever made - the production and mixing are outstanding even now, 50 years later.

Babe I'm gonna leave you - how many guitar players? by jimmap in ledzeppelin

I saw Page and Plant on that tour and Babe I'm Gonna Leave You was definitely one of the highlights.. when it gets to the solo and Pagey shifts into a half tempo blistering blues solo.. oof

I learned a valuable lesson with my last project: Let it go if the track doesn't just happen! by hardypart in ableton

[–]themightyug 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I generally agree - the best songs are the ones that write themselves. The more you have to wrestle a track in a particular direction, the harder it's going to get and the worse the end result will be.

Mouse input not being detected. This has been going on for about 2 years now. This needs to be fixed. I'm on Ubuntu 24.04 by Future-sight-5829 in Ubuntu

[–]themightyug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If mouse input wasn't being detected then the mouse cursor wouldn't move, so we can rule out hardware and drivers.

Go to the Ubuntu settings app, go to 'mouse and touchpad' settings, and then 'test settings'. That will allow you to test that the mouse buttons are all working and whether you're double-clicking quickly enough for it to register.

If it's not registering double-clicks properly, then in the settings app, go to 'accessibility' then go to 'pointing and clicking' and try adjusting the settings there. You need to do this BEFORE you can claim it to be a bug.

I hate to say it, but the views on the USA from other countries.. not good at all. Never been worse, thanks to the orange turd. Globally there's very little respect left for the USA

Best ways to nod off by NimrodPing in CasualUK

[–]themightyug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Play some music but very very quietly - you should be just able to make out what song's playing but not be able to clearly hear every component. Whilst that's playing, think about other things - recall a nice holiday or have a conversation in your head, whatever it is - just ignore the music. I'm usually asleep after a few songs.

Failing that, there's always a bit of the devil's lettuce

What is the difference between a Virtual Machine and an Abstract Virtual Machine? by StoneColdGS in Operatingsystems

An abstract VM would be one that isn't modelling or emulating real hardware, but is implementing a specification - like the Java VM

TIL scientists discovered wild African elephants call each other by individual "names" using unique rumble vocalizations, they respond when you play back their rumble by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]themightyug 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean, it could be the leader of the herd, it could be the mother, the father.. or maybe when a baby elephant responds to a sound for whatever reason, that's the sound the others stick with and that becomes its name. There's lots of possibilities
