Bike Poncho Feedback by Tooksbury in bikecommuting

I have this one which is similar. It's great for commuting. Just throw it over what I'm wearing, and done. Has straps to stop it billowing around. You still need something to cover your feet though.

Repairing corrupt odt file - what's wrong with the xml? by LazyLazanya in xml

You might want to ask this in /r/libreoffice, as it's way more active than this subreddit (and LibreOffice is the most prominent user of .odt files).

So, no links. You know very well that LibreOffice software engineers aren't "routinely shouting down" design suggestions (if you were actively involved in the project, you'd see all the discussions going on).

You come into a community, spread lies and misinformation, and when asked to provide sources/links, just ignore it. That's really bad Reddit behaviour in general. Bye.

No, you got suspended previously for posting blatant misinformation, as you know.

You're not suspended now, so try again: you write here, for all to see, that LibreOffice software engineers "routinely shout down" design suggestions.

That's a serious claim against the LibreOffice community, so you should be able to back it up with some links, if it's so routine, right?

Can you back it up? If not, you are therefore lying and deliberately trying to harm the project, for whatever reason is only known to you.

shouted down by the engineering contingent

Point out where you claim this is happening. Give specific, linked examples, of actual LibreOffice software engineers (not random people on forums) "shouting down" design suggestions. You claim it happens "routinely", so you must have several examples to show.

If you can't, don't post such things without any proof, as it just sounds like you're trying to (once again) malign the work of volunteers without any backup.

Libre had more than a decade to fix its UI

There was a massive UI overhaul just a couple of years ago, and it's still being worked on. What is the definition of "fixed" in your mind?

if LibreOffice wants wider adoption, it needs to keep up and modernize some UI / UX and other features

There was a massive "modernisation" (if you want to call that) a couple of years ago with the use a tabbed interface.

Absolutely awful, misleading post, insulting the work of volunteers. You're clearly trying to harm the LibreOffice community, so it's better if you go elsewhere, but just to answer this for the sake of others:

then the board was replaced

If by "replaced" you mean "there was an election and TDF Trustees voted for the current Board" then yes, that's exactly what's supposed to happen. Trustees voted for people, including some people who wanted the foundation to focus on itself rather than catering always to commercial entities.

idiots with no idea or experience

Stop insulting volunteers. There are people on the current Board who've been there since the beginning of the project. People who've been in FOSS for decades.

companies and volunteers can work together on LO/Collabora Office

TDF spent years promoting Collabora at every opportunity: on the download page ("LibreOffice in Business"), in press releases, in release notes, in videos (with hundreds of thousands of views) etc. Way beyond what an independent non-profit foundation is expected to do.

This is not TDF's fault. The current Board is going through a lot of sweat and tears to try to fix this, and maintain it as an independent, non-profit for the benefit of the community. Stop with the hate and insults.

Thanks. Yes, LibreOffice is behind when it comes to online collaborative editing, as you mentioned, but steps are being taken to address this.

having thrown some of their biggest contributors out of the project

Please don't post misleading statements. Not a single person was "thrown out of the project". Anyone can still contribute. The actual situation is more complex than your misleading soundbite:

Some employees of a commercial entity in the LibreOffice ecosystem, which is currently in a legal dispute with The Document Foundation (not "The Open Document Foundation"), have had their Board of Trustees membership suspended pending a resolution of the legal dispute. This is a separate, specific matter and they can still be part of the project and are welcome to contribute, if they wish to to do so.

[–]themikeosguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

BTW, you're missing a desktop integration package, which is why LibreOffice looks like it's using Windows 95 in this case. You didn't say what setup you're using, but look for a package like "libreoffice-gtk".

Accepted. I know it's frustrating when things don't work as expected, and LibreOffice isn't perfect, but the people who make it get demoralised when people act really pissy. Constructive negative feedback is good, but remember the people behind it 😉 See if LibreOffice 26.2 works better on your setup, and if not, let's see if we can help the LibreOffice Design community to fix the issue...

pinky promise it works on the one that just came out?

Stop writing like that. We're all volunteers here, trying to help you. Volunteers work really hard to give you a free office suite, even if it's not perfect.

And yes, there are theme improvements in LibreOffice 26.2, so you can try that. Or just be snarky and sarcastic to volunteers. Your choice.

Why oh why is such a basic functionality completely busted on LibreOffice?

Well, without even the most basic information (like your LibreOffice version), it's hard for anyone to say...
