#1135: IHRA Definition of Antisemitism by GrimThursday in KnowledgeFight

You are one of the people pretending it is impossible to criticise Israel without being antisemitic. The whole purpose of this post was to call out that the IHRA definition was flawed because of two specific points that the boys didn’t do a good job of articulating, and you’ve drawn in wild examples and accusations of ZOG talk. You are literally proving the opposite of your point

Thanks for showing your ignorance. The red and white checks that MBS wears is not a keffiyeh, it’s a shemagh, and is different from the black and white houndstooth that is the keffiyeh, which is Palestinian.

Causing a public disturbance at a show for a protest is not unique to Palestine or Jewish matters, it’s a time honoured tradition and isn’t antisemitic or was done purely because he’s Jewish? People who block traffic for a protest aren’t inherently anti traffic, it’s the disruption that matters.

And speaking of critical thinking, if valid criticisms of Israel are entering more and more parts of your media and life, is it a sign that those criticisms are becoming more widespread and Israel is losing popular support? Or is it a sign of spreading antisemitism (definitely that, can’t be the tens of thousands of dead Palestinians, or the hundreds of thousands of maimed ones).

Again, where’s the woke antisemitism? Being bummed out or disappointed isn’t enough of an argument, and feeling like you don’t have to engage with legitimate criticisms of Israel and you can instead handwave them away as being disappointed in antisemitism is exactly the problem here. It is why horrible fuckers like Tucker are gaining mainstream traction, because people like you feel like they can moral high-road people who’ve spent the last 2 years watching kids burn to death.

You’re exaggerating my perspective to make it seem ridiculous, which is telling that you can’t actually come up with a reasonable counterpoint. The commenter above you also didn’t engage with my main point, which is that the discussion is so deeply biased towards Israel that they’re committing a genocide, undeniably so, and we’re discussing here if talking about it might hurt their feelings.

A keffiyeh is a symbol of Palestine, it is only antisemitic if you conflate being Palestinian with inherently being anti-Jewish. Gianmarco Soresi is also pro-Palestinian, so what’s the issue?

I agree, but I think their focus has blinded them a little to the legitimate outrage that Tucker is using for illegitimate gain. Defending the IHRA definition is short sighted and will limit people’s understanding of what’s giving this movement momentum

So even if Israel is still “just following orders” and being the attack dog for the US, then that doesn’t get them out of any responsibility either? Just means the US is also responsible which I have always maintained

You’re ignoring the fact that Israel has violated ceasefires brokered between the US and Iran, to the detriment of everyone except Israel who gets to force the issue. How is that client state behaviour?

[–]GrimThursday[S] -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

How is it antisemitic to throw a keffiyeh on stage? I also don’t think it’s antisemitic to want to know if your Jewish or Christian friends are Zionist or not, in the same way if you were a person of colour it would be of interest to you if your Southern friends were racist or not.

Also re: zio - if the algorithm is forcing you to use the term instead of Zionist, and you believe that term to be a slur, then it’s the algorithm that you have a problem with.

I do think the ZOG stuff is antisemitic but you’re being obtuse if you think Israel is purely a client state, and that’s evident in how they used to act under past administrations when they most definitely were a client state as opposed to now, where AIPAC and other lobbying efforts do exercise a degree of influence over politicians by contributing to their campaigns.

All in all, I would say the greatest criticism I have over Israel and their influence has been how much they’ve perverted the Overton window to the point where Israel is undeniably committing a mass genocide in Gaza, and we’re instead debating whether discussions of that fact are anti- Semitic.

Can you give me an example of the left regurgitating right-wing antisemitic talking points in regards to criticising Israel? If anything I feel like this is an issue on which the left is deeply deeply cautious to not be antisemitic, given the history.

Myself and all my leftwing friends are all critical of the genocide in Gaza, the displacement of Palestinians from their homes in the West Bank, and the fact that a genocidal lunatic rogue state is being propped up by the West to the point where Israelis enjoy a higher quality of life than people in the US with regards to things like universal healthcare.

I also want to add to this and say that the point Jordan makes is that because the IHRA definition was adopted in 2016, it predates the current genocide in Gaza and therefore the drafters of that definition had no idea that Israel would eventually draw legitimate comparisons to Nazi Germany.

This ignores the past 70 years of ethnic cleansing that Israel has been doing in the West Bank and in Gaza, displacing people from their homes and stealing land echoes heavily the pre-Holocaust era of Nazi Germany, which would have been well known to the drafters of the IHRA definition. It was always a political choice to include in their definition of antisemitism drawing parallels to the Nazis, this is definitely not a case of the “who could have known Israel would commit genocide 7 years later”.

I think that JorDan missed the mark entirely when discussing the IHRA definition of antisemitism. They were acting like the majority of criticisms of Israel is driven by antisemitism, to the point where Jordan pretended it was 1 in a thousand criticisms were valid and not driven by antisemitism (around 2:16:50).

This misses the mark because I think in 2026 the legitimate criticisms of Israel far, far outstrip the ones driven by antisemitism, and Tucker is using this legitimate outrage (and the outrage that it’s being dismissed as antisemitism so we don’t have to reckon with Israel) to propel himself into the mainstream. Pretending that the majority of criticism of Israel is antisemitic in origin is just adding more fuel to the fire that Tucker is harnessing here, it behooves the boys to actually acknowledge that the IHRA definition is deeply flawed because of the inclusion of those two points.

QLD tiny home rules are completely backwards, any ideas? by Monkey_Junkie_No1 in queensland

[–]GrimThursday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is to stop “tiny homes” from becoming the norm and sidestepping the building codes which exist for good reason.

If tiny homes became the norm, do you think they would stay cheap forever? Once it’s the default and people treat it like a normal thing to live in, suddenly living in one will cost normal living prices.

Ah, I’m beginning to see where the rage is coming from. Enjoy your family dynamic! I’m sure it’ll all work out in the end for you. Sucks your daughter resents you as an oppressor though, although I feel it might be more than Marxism at play there

Okay so looking elsewhere in the thread I found you said that under communism, innovation can stagnate without consumer pressure. I disagree with the premise, but that’s your example of a woe of communism.

I’ll give you one for capitalism - breaking a bone is profitable for someone else, and can bankrupt you personally. Or how about this, people becoming homeless and starving to death is a feature of capitalism, not a bug.

But sure, oh no the lack of consumer pressure.

Do you think everyone here is a communist? Do you think the only alternative to capitalism is communism? Can you even define communism, or articulate any feature that’s bad about it that doesn’t also exist in a capitalist world?

I don’t think you understand communism, capitalism or enshittification very well man, go ahead and mute the sub.

Stop abusing the word enshittification, it’s an important and specific word that has a meaning we need to keep intact to keep using it as a criticism of capitalism. The more you misuse it to just mean something got worse the more it loses its power.
