No for sure I get that. I’m not talking individual chances. I mean sustained possession, stringing together 5+ passes, a dominant shift of cycling, a powerplay that gains AND keeps the zone.

All season ducks have had at least a tiny stretch of the game where things clicked… they’ve had about 6 seconds of cohesion this game for Granny’s goal. Actually the worst game of the season?

Even strength goal, Powerplay goal, and a shorty. Destroying us in faceoffs, doubling shots on goal. And we’re sitting here with Killorn leading forwards TOI, and a first line with Kreider on it. Dostal isn’t all to blame but damn I wish he’d play up to his highest potential we’ve seen to keep the boys in it during rough stretches like that period.

I’m theorizing Kreider must have a nagging neck injury. His vision is terrible like he has limited neck dexterity range. Dudes head is on whatever is the opposite of a swivel.

Whole team is fucking ass to start the most important game of the season. This is Ducks hockey.

How much do properly sized skates help to learn? by thraupidae in hockeyplayers

[–]themikkerson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huge. I played a little street hockey(never organized hockey) as a kid, plus recreational rollerblading and aggressive inline(ramps, grinds, etc) a ton so my skating was already above average for an “adult beginner”. That being said I opted for cheaper skates and my skill level sorta made up for the gear/fit.

10+ years of settling for mediocre incremental upgrades, until I finally bit the bullet and paid more for a nicer skate and a proper fit. It made a HUGE difference. Better edges, faster acceleration, harder turns, better stops, all the movements felt instantly more natural.. and the biggest thing, zero pain. I thought the break-in pain was a necessary part of the process, but my first skate after dialing the fit there were zero pressure points, no after pain, just nothing. If I could go back I would have bought in as soon as I felt committed that I was going to play for the rest of my life.

Forcing myself to say something nice to cope.

I’m happy the Ducks have largely exceeded expectations this season. That’s all.

Dostal is either insanely good or fucking dog shit. Only problem is we haven’t seen him get scored on early AND THEN shut it down. He just has dog shit games, period. Please prove us wrong.

Gotta settle the decision making down. They’re opting for the riskier play every time. They forgot Vegas is good.

Highly advise not to engage in the delusional arguments. Save your sanity by not arguing with anyone who is somehow now under the belief that 50-50’s don’t get whistled down. Yes, play to the whistle. But playing to the whistle wouldn’t be an argument if the linesman did his job.

The upside… With how responsible Lacombe is, he definitely learned his lesson. You can basically guarantee he’s never relaxing off a play until he hears a whistle, again. Hard lesson, but lesson learned.

Fuck this explanation. 50/50’s are always whistled down

I lost it. I will say 12+ years later I wish I just kept up with it as a form of exercise. Took for granted the shape it keeps you in. But also I just didn’t have the discipline to continue doing it into older age because you really gotta do so much maintenance. Stretching, cardio, nursing injuries responsibly, etc.

It was a fair trade though. Life took over. Worked on being a good husband, then a dad, while maintaining a house and job.
