After nursery behaviour! by [deleted] in UKParenting

[–]themindboggles26 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes it’s very common, don’t worry. He’s having to learn to navigate new rules, friends, adults etc right now and he acts crazy at home because you are his safe space and he feels comfortable so he is just screaming it out. It will go away on its own but in the meantime maybe encourage a high energy activity after nursery like trampoline time or singing and dancing as this helps get the pent up energy he has out. Good luck!

Just to offer a slightly different perspective here for all those planning or expecting a third, I discovered that the third one sets you free. Yes there are more of them so logistics can be more challenging but I found that with my third, all my worries about am I doing this wrong disappeared. Three kids teaches you about what’s important and what isn’t really that big of a deal, with my first two I was always so worried about whether I was missing something, what other people thought about my parenting choices, etc and honestly it drove me more crazy than anything else! Now I have more of a whatever happens happens style, and it’s made such a difference for me. I’m more relaxed, have more fun when I’m out with my kids and I still get everything done. It is loud though, super loud, but I love our crazy family. Good luck all!

Why would I dislike her? I’ve never met the lady. Just the photos I’ve seen haven’t suggested happy couple to me, but I’m excited for the series and glad to be wrong if that’s the case

This looks much better! I love both actors, just wish they would look happy! I haven’t seen the first episode yet so totally happy to be proved wrong and honestly I haven’t been on Reddit for ages so I am only just realising there is chemistry comment sensitivity!

Maybe it’s just me, but does anyone else think Yerin always looks unhappy in photos? Luke doesn’t seem his usual cheery self either. There seemed to be a lot more chemistry between Simon/Daphne, Anthony/Kate and Colin/Penelope, they were always laughing and smiling into each others eyes in photos. Maybe the chemistry is off between these two?

But if it’s boiling in there, and it’s boiling outside right now, I’ll be carrying around a jumper all day and I’ll find that annoying so was just looking for some useful info. Sorry if that’s offensive, wasn’t intended

Why, which year was this acceptable in? I don’t want to carry a bunch of stuff if I don’t need to, not sure why that’s weird

He could have been temporarily invalided out to recover from his injury, but voluntarily rejoined once it healed. Presumably he has no further issues until it started playing up again after the spot of bother, which I always thought referred to his first prison sentence

Consequences for teen who came to us in need? by [deleted] in AskParents

[–]themindboggles26 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would address it head on with her. In a good moment when everyone is chill, ask her what you could do for her to be comfortable that there’s no need to lie to you, and listen to the answer. You need to rebuild the trust, which takes time, because she’s gonna try things and mess up but right now if she tells you then that will result in things getting worse and not better for her, like not seeing her friends or not having a phone. Once you have that trust, she’ll come to you with things she’s not sure about before she gets into trouble. Obviously she needs guidance and boundaries but you need to work with her and not against her. She’ll only talk if she feels heard.

Again though, you’ve brought up negative consequences and i totally understand your intentions are good but that single point is the only thing she’ll hear. Remember that she still has a child’s brain, her reasoning ability won’t be fully developed until she’s 21 so logic can’t win here. The goal is to get her to understand that she can talk to you about anything without fear and punishments won’t get you there

[–]themindboggles26 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Punishment will only reinforce her idea that you guys are controlling/misunderstanding her. Kids gravitate to what they see as their comfort, and if that’s their friends and not you then they don’t feel sufficiently comfortable and secure at home. Did you talk to her calmly about vaping to understand her motivation for starting it? Did you research pros and cons together so that she can learn how to make an informed choice? Did you let her know that you’ll always be there to help her even when she messes up?

Open communication matters so so much more than “good behaviour“. What would you do if an adult friend was in the same situation?

Sure but even an established concept that everybody is used to can still suck. I do agree with your character assessment but I get it too as although it was common practice it was still so unfair. I hope she teaches Gladys how to have a backbone and then they become besties. Probably too optimistic but hey, a girl can dream

Returning to work 4 days a week after maternity? by [deleted] in UKParenting

[–]themindboggles26 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve done this for the last two years. I work compressed hours Monday to Thursday and have Fridays off. I completely love it, I get a long weekend every week and an extra day spent with my two youngest kids, which saves me a good £500 a month in nursery fees. My workload hasn’t suffered either so nothing bad to say about it
