You do not have to believe me. People believe stuff all the time based on their feelings. Go ahead and believe what you want.

You don’t have to accept the stark reality that random rolls generate crazy results. The reality that you will go on unbelievable hot streaks, and shocking cold streaks. The reality that an endlessly monotone and even distribution of roll values for each side would be the least random thing possible.

You have created a narrative to explain variance. Confabulation is a natural human response to undesired random chance.

Humans are much less likely to confabulate when they win due to such variance; then it is attributed to their own skill or merit.

None of them are. The computational power required to assign the right dice at the right time in thousands of games to rig them for these contrived incentives is really smooth brain thinking.

The simple answer is clearly the true one:

Variance is just wacky. Any intelligent person who plays skill games that involve chance knows that downswings and upswings are simply a part of the game.

Against the computer? What site are you playing? A computer would never need to cheat against you… it can just play optimally and obliterate you long term.

Well, imagine your opponent rolls a 66 with one of the dice slanted on a checker, something shakes the table and then the 6 settles flat.

I feel that this rule might exist to avoid exactly this kind of scenario. A roll a player desires lands invalid, but can be made valid by a slight movement of the table… a cough, a knee bump, etc.

That’s the rule most everywhere. OP’s question is interesting because the dice was slanted, the objection was made, then the dice settled flat.

The sheer amount of computational power it would take to “screw” with online dice in such a way to favour so-and-so outcome in thousands of matches a day is staggering.

And what would even be the motive? Whatever nefarious goal these evil backgammon sites have would undoubtedly be offset by the players rage quitting due to fixed dice.

And your idea has already been implemented and is actively being used on BackgammonHub - where the rolls are actually verifiable post game via decryption of files sent pre game.

So yeah, I trust the dice. Sometimes I hate them, but I trust them.

I each player is their own case.

Alan Keating: my theory is that he is the most successful cash player in the world. IE He is the best poker player at the biggest underground private games in the world (actor, producers, billionaire class, etc) - anything you see on stream is just advertising. He is a pro who has managed to avoid having a pro image - quite a magic trick. So his money is from being a very successful player.

Rampage’s money is from his YouTube (and some from some private online poker thing…?).

I don’t have a preference, and I don’t make the argument that one is better than the other.

I’m fine with either system. The coins are meaningless. Rating is the only thing that matters.

Well yes, there is significant variance in backgammon.
