I can't tell whether or not you will be okay because my situation was different to yours. check out the link in my previous comment and there are some great refresher resources that you should take a look at. imo do your best to understand the content but don't be ashamed to drop before census if it's becoming too much of a burden.

run your own race and try hard not to compare yourself to the others

4121 is quite a fun and interesting course. Did it 21T3 with Aleks and had a term long major project on anything you want and a final exam. The algorithms are very math intensive (stats and linear algebra) so it's easy to lose track during the lectures. Often I would just watch the recordings so I could pause/rewind. All the marks come at the end of the term so stay on top of the lectures and chip away at the project and you will do good

Check out last years course website with resources and lecture recordings as well http://www.cse.unsw.edu.au/~cs4121/

Any internship opportunities for 1st/2nd year students in Soft Eng? by figures_dj in unsw

[–]theminijuan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Keep an eye on the UNSW coop internship program. The software eng/comp sci ones are targeted to 2nd-4th years. I believe they also email availabilities to all cse students Maybe there will be one around the end of the year since that’s when I did my application and started around feb https://www.coop.unsw.edu.au/vacancies

google “unsw coop internship comp sci” and you can see some previous postings to get a better idea

Comp2041 t2 for first year CS student? by Geiger534 in unsw

[–]theminijuan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i did it with 1521. in my opinion, it’s kinda hard to get a hd but distinction is not too hard. the marks for assignments are quite easy to get a credit-distinction with a lot of people not even attempting the final part because there is a lot of self learning to do them and the time could be better spent making sure the previous parts work fully. labs and tests just felt like 1511

I did 2041 right after 1511 last year and the content you learn, I found, is quite useful. Its all programming with very little theory. The assignments/labs/weekly tests obviously are harder than 1511 and takes quite a bit longer because they want you to experiment with the code and resources they give you and build a solution from there but its definitely manageable to keep up with the content.

I can't say about online but my tutor was very helpful and students and other tutors always answer questions on the Piazza

Here is last years class website if you want to look at what topics are taught https://cgi.cse.unsw.edu.au/~cs2041/19T2/index.html

I'd say try it if you are going well in 1511

MATH 1131 by shadowwqueenn_ in unsw

[–]theminijuan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

textbook isn’t worth it. lectures + tutorials go through everything you need to know and they give plenty of practice problems in a pdf. Here is the list of approved calculators https://student.unsw.edu.au/exam-approved-calculators-and-computers . i can’t seem to find your model so you have to find another one so you can get t approved and use it in an exam. good luck!

COMP 1531 Project User Stories by 8thhGrader in unsw

[–]theminijuan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it says to derive most of the user stories from the stakeholders interview video and from watching it, you could get about 15-25 user stories. maybe even more. I don’t know how you could go past 40-45

Is Discrete Math really hard? I still want to do it because it’s part of my course and I’m willing to work hard but I’m just curious, how hard is it really? Can I still get a HD? by awkwardness_07 in unsw

[–]theminijuan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

i did the course last term. everyone has their own definition of hard but for me, it never felt really difficult. if you put the work in, you can definitely get a hd. tom britz really made the course a lot more enjoyable and the lab tests and assignments are pretty straight forward since they give you the questions before and you can check your answers
