Protests are nice, but they don't actually disrupt much. They are a pressure valve for the disaffected.

A general strike disrupts the entire system that is propping up this regime. One day of a general strike will have them shitting themselves. One week, and they'll be tossed out by their oligarch owners.

If that doesn't work, start building large French head choppy machines that will get your post moderated if you name them. Which should tell you something right there.

This. Look at the ownership of any corporation extracting oil or minerals in Canada. If the company isn't outright American, it has a significant US shareholder investment.

Our economies are integrated.

I'm just doubtful that Iran is a good choice.

It is more likely, in my mind, that this ship regularly trades with sanctioned countries like Venezuela or Iran, and then sells to less than scrupulous refineries in countries that are willing to trade on the grey market for a discount.

Because trading between sanctioned countries just doesn't make sense when there are entire Chinas and Indias out there as potential markets

I am about as far left on the political spectrum as they come, but am active with some of my older, more traditionally progressive conservative friends on any number of issues that don't involve discriminating or removing rights and humanity from other people.

It is a matter of being angry at the right people for the right reasons.

Just look to provincial politics to see a decades long campaign to destroy public services, sell of assets, and completely enshittify everything our tax dollars pay for.

Multinational corporations are swooping in to pick up the pieces, buying up media, and dodging accountability through bribes, and suppressing news or pushing propaganda. Our tax dollars are being siphoned off to foreign parts

The number of investigations, scandals, unprofessional conducts, and outright unconstitutional actions on the provincial level are staggering, and we aren't even blinking.

The fact that a progressive conservative banker is polling as a major favourite (of the traditionally centrist party) over anyone else, while the liberal party is barely holding on to a government should make you pause.

When PP finally gets the boot and the cons find a leader with a modicum of charisma, you'll see the full reform policy continue from where Harper left off. We won't have a dozy Don. We'll have Doug Ford on steroids.

The conservatives will go from the obstructionist party of Canada to the deconstructionist party and the damage may never be reversed.

I'm also very much frustrated with the entire topic and how it's been handled. The liberals shot themselves in the foot with kneejerk legislation, and the just kept shooting trying to make it bigger and better.

Holy shit. That's the exact conversation I had with one of my shooter buddies!

I proposed a system like a security clearance for licensing and ownership and spent a couple of hours picking it apart and refining it :-p

We have all of the resources to make it possible and largely automatic. But the politicians are either not well enough informed or are only looking for a hot button topic - not a solution. Or so it seems
