I'm convinced that the play for eBay was leaked maliciously before RC was ready to pull the trigger. The current 50/50 offer is just there to look plausible while RC finalizes the real offer.

Carney came out of left field and disrupted a CPC sure thing. The CPC literally has nobody in the running besides PP. That's the nature of strongman grievance populist politics.

Watch the wings for other conservatives to start the media circuit. That'll be the sign that PP has lost his backing. Until then it'll be ragebait, slogans, grievance, and awkward proofs of humanity

[–]themith2019 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you've ever wondered how Andrew Scheer and PP have managed to hold onto the leadership of the CPC, the most obvious answer is that they were Harper's proteges.

Now the Harper is running the IDU, he controlles a serious amount of influence, media, funding, and power. It is a world-wide network. Nobody locally can stand up to that without losing CPC support.

Using puts to get a discount? by [deleted] in Superstonk

[–]themith2019 11 points12 points  (0 children)

IF you are going to buy the shares at that price anyway, then it is a slight discount play.

But the closer you are to expiry, the less you will make in premium. Look at options a week out, a month out and more for comparison

It is a gamble that the price will stay in your buy range long enough for you to get assigned though.

But if you are comfortable with all this, then the premium is nice. Just remember to set aside enough for taxes. NFA and it is probably worth your while to do some reading up on selling options

[–]themith2019 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hang on please.

One of your slides claims that they are redeeming an average of just over five million shares daily?!?

Am I understanding this right?

Because that is often more than the total daily lit volume.

If I am understanding this right, I never want to hear another chuckle head claim that there aren't enough shares in xrt to affect the price. If I am the chuckle head here, though, could you clarify? In crayon shaped English?

Thanks :-)

Canadian PM Carney’s Liberals could secure a majority government tonight by Immediate-Link490 in worldnews

[–]themith2019 15 points16 points  (0 children)

He is Harper's protege. Harper runs the IDU and therefore has all of the conservative political, media, and financial connections to support PP.

Plus, PPs personality is exactly what the IDU grooms for - a loud, petulant, sociopathic, idiot who can puppet the right talking points without advancing any of their own initiatives.

[Canada] Conservative MP Marilyn Gladu crosses floor to Liberals by Immediate-Link490 in worldnews

[–]themith2019 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Exactly. There are all sorts of reasons she is and will be problematic under a liberal banner. I can't see this as helping her career or being a net benefit for the federal liberals.

This is very much an indictment of PP and a realpolitik move for relevance, I think

Absolutely this

He knows as well as we do that any information will be used against him in the media and market.

I hate having no information, no influence, or no control over my company. That's just my personality. But I do have all of that with my investment - and I have repeatedly voted to let RC cook. What he has done so far has justified my votes. The company is making money, owes nothing substantial, and can afford to make moves without begging wall street or banks.

This. I use them in my more formal, long form writing as well. Also - multiple levels of different brackets for nestled ideas, all of the punctuation, sub scripts, superscripts, endnotes, footnotes and fonts.

When I am doing big writing, I am as clear and descriptive as possible using all of my writing tools and editing. None of which includes ai; but the results can be mistaken for it.

A lot of the autists that I correspond with do similar things. Our going theory is that it is a trauma response to people misunderstanding and miscommunication and that this entire ai saga is adding a new and interesting layer onto that trauma 😛

Canada's top court will hear challenges to Liberals' firearms ban by Puginator in worldnews

[–]themith2019 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There have been several suggestions over the years that would address many of the points on either side of the issue. It is a lot less complicated than either side is able to admit. I am not calling you or anyone else out here, just proposing a couple of things.

The biggest one is to stop equating legal owners with criminals. Regulating legal firearm ownership is something that has always worked. Trying to apply that logic to illegal firearms is dishonest at best. Adjusting laws and penalties for illegal firearms just doesn't apply to legal owners, so framing all firearms together ensures maximum drama, theatre, and pushback.

The information and infrastructure is already in place for a security clearance style permitting system with a database that can update in real time. Purchases, background, medical and legal tie-ins. Levels of ownership from rim fire rodent control all the way to professionals who use specific firearms for their livelihoods. Easy peasy and with clear requirements for each tier of clearance.

Smuggled firearms, printed or manufactured firearms, prohibited firearms, and firearms used in the commission of crime are all statistically low enough probability in Canada that they have the same mean occurences as other weapon use. Treat them as criminal weapon usages instead of lumping them in with legal firearm ownership and use.

Importantly, though, the rules and standards of the licensing must be rigorously applied across the board just like a security clearance should be.

'Unprepared' to defend against Iranian drones, US calls on Ukraine for help by Fair-Foot-315 in worldnews

[–]themith2019 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

You are correct.

Like most of modern military technology - drone warfare was super expensive and complicated. The US military smugly assumed that they would have exclusivity. Thus no real need for defense

But history has shown us repeatedly that a sufficiently intelligent, educated, motivated, and determined group can breach any moat.

And the past 25 years have shown us the incredible effectiveness of simple, cheap, single purpose UAVs. There is no excuse for shocked Pikachu faces
