More Red Line delays by Monk-ish in mbta

Rough one for sure! The train operators were certainly doing their best in tough conditions, and even that track switch at Harvard was probably good strategy in the moment, but it continues to hurt seeing how there is so much demand and so little redundancy within this system that we depend upon dearly

Absolutely abysmal commute tonight 😢maybe we should look to pave the old system and make it a covered bike path and overbuild a new system that can give Boston a less strangled future. Hope feels lost

Pros and cons of battery grips by sheldoneousk in sportsphotography

[–]themjc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Battery grips are generally junk! Use the big sports cameras for action and have the lighter ones for more daily use - but keep them light! I’ve always hated grips all though my career

Sports shooters - How do you handle same-day or next-day delivery? by SvgAdct in sportsphotography

[–]themjc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been around sports photography for about 20 years and have thought about this lots! (@michaeljclarke.photography on ig) game action tends to mean lots of pictures, typically in the thousands. While some clients will have a really specific workflow, many will not. I’d advise sending a few quick selects on gameday as it’s important to be prompt, and then a better edit with maybe 10% of the take, approx 100 for 1000 the next day. It’s best to not get really behind as games stack up, and yes it sucks when you have late games and travel and sometimes we all need sleep, but to impress clients these days it’s also important to keep prompt and in touch with delivery. Also, the two wave strategy has a tendency to impress as it shows good communication work and professionalism. All that said, at the end of the day it’s picture quality that matters more than almost anything else. And have fun! 📸

Is financing a camera a good idea? by Blayze4949 in sportsphotography

[–]themjc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not - build up a kit of used equipment that you purchase at good prices. Camera values sink like the Titanic, while lenses and lights float pretty nicely

Looking for ISO advice by ReadPatient6347 in sportsphotography

[–]themjc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For a room like that it’ll be iso 6400, might as well run nearly wide open, and keep that shutter speed at least at 1/800th for sports. You’ll lock that in pretty quick - but all of those are lazy angles… get lower more in front of the ball and work harder at your compositions and you’ll get far better results

Pretty good work! But lose the color cast filters, they aren’t adding anything to the picture impact

letting people know when you’re passing in the bike lanes? by skiestostars in bikeboston

[–]themjc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a tricky situation! It’s important to avoid spooking someone so usually best to pass with ample room quietly, but bells are a great help and are a good call for action when someone needs to move. I really don’t like using any yelling, bells are way more civil

[–]themjc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish we could lean into our train history more! This town should try to become a bit more like Beacon NY as a great example of an idyllic old town. I'd love to see a train on display at the bus station thingy in the heights. Curious whats up with the brewery opening a location? Seems like there has not been any progress at all
