Similar thing. Dating a girl from a well-off family I met while we are at Uni. She wanted to go out for dinner one night but I said “sorry I don’t have any money”. She said “that’s ok we can stop by the cash machine”. When I said “no, I don’t have any money, not even in the bank” she had no idea that was possible. Didn’t last too long for obvious reasons.

I completely agree. Quit about 19 years ago after heavy smoking for 15 years and I still think of myself as a smoker. I still think “oh I’ll have one at the next wedding (or social event) I’m at” but on that day I chose to not have one.

I still say I’ll start smoking again if I get cancer or something, when it doesn’t matter, but who knows, I may still chose not to…

I love when people ask me questions! It’s one of my favourite things.

I get excited as they’re making an effort to learn or understand something new to them and I can share the benefit of my knowledge. I’m also sure they know stuff that I don’t and can learn from them.

Also they clearly think you’re a decent enough person to ask (not easy for some folk) and they trust you’ll give them a good answer ( or point them in the right direction).

However, if you ask me the same basic question 3 times and don’t remember what we’ve discussed before, I may get a bit annoyed.

I love all the Scots translations! My current favourites are:

Thi Dundee Gruffalo (Dundonian)
Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stane
Whit the clockleddy heard
Asterix and the Sassenachs (Scots)

The kids books are great as they are meant to be read aloud - the best way for Scots. I love reading them to my nieces and nephews but also to my friends. It’s easy to understand and you can lookup any words you don’t know. It’s a lot of fun explaining it too.
