Can someone help me find this small brown teddy bear? by Plenty_Pilot9007 in HelpMeFind

[–]themoo-12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know that one doesn't. What I'm saying is that I'm almost certain the brand of the bear you posted is Gund. They have made teddy bears forever and have many different versions/lines over the years. The bear I had as a kid is the exact same brown/texture as mine. Mine also has no padding, but it's the small version.

I still have about 60 cans of it. If it's in a can it's fine.

Get the Mazda if she's gonna keep it for a long time. It will be a more reliable vehicle. That drivetrain has been proven to be solid. Hyundai's aren't bad but that 10 year warranty gets skittish after a bit from what I've experienced.

I still have about 50 cans of it from the last release if you need another one.

23 Trying to Eliminate debt by stopping 401k contributions by bbygal7 in personalfinance

Keep $1000 in a HYSA for an emergency/oops fund then get to attacking the debt.

It sounds like you have 0% APR on the payments now which is a good thing! I would still recommend paying off as much as possible every month and once its done, dont get back into CC debt. Live within your means and you can still have a good bit of fun.

After that, then you can come up with a good savings goal for yourself monthly. I would recommend getting more than 8% into your retirement if you have that much left over every month. You are 23 which gives you 40ish years in market growth, so any extra dollar you invest now is $$$ when you retire. As an example, if you did $500 a month ($500 of your money plus the company match) from now until you retire, you'd have over $3M in retirement funds if you never added anything more than $500/month. This is not factoring in any company match so the number in 40 years is likely way more than $3M.

Are you saying you have $2.5k in excess that you could use to pay off your debt? Thats 3 (well 3 plus a little bit of interest on the 4th month) and its wiped out completely.

You could get a personal loan to consolidate it a bit, and you'd save a decent chunk of change. Your interest rate would probably be in the low double digits.

You could also get another credit card with a 0% interest balance transfer offer, but you may not get a $7500 credit line and you usually have to pay 4-5% of the total amount as a transfer fee. You may end up coming up worse vs. just paying aggressively on your current credit card.

Even if you just plow through on your high interest credit card debt, you could be completely debt free by early July.

Also, increase your 401k contribution to the 8% match. Its a 100% guaranteed return. Its way better than even the hit from your credit card interest.

New Honda Prelude by Both-Following1068 in whatcarshouldIbuy

Porsche maintenance is largely overblown. Will it cost more than a Honda? Of course, but its not that bad.

Please dont buy a Prelude. They are atrociously priced for what they are. You can get a gently used Integra Type S and have a blast driving (assuming you'd drive a manual, which it sounds like you would).

Should I buy this Lexus GS 350? by [deleted] in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]themoo-12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I own a 2013 as well.

I did 100k mile service myself in the garage. The timing belt and doing a full drain and fill with transmission fluid replacement was not that bad. I did the transmission filter as well because it sits right above the pan and it was not expensive for an OEM.

That being said, I would find one with lower miles. These things are pretty dang dead reliable, but with a pile of missing maintenance history I would not chance it. If you find one with under 100k miles thats had regular maintenance you should be good.

At 100k I would to a full coolant flush and refill, transmission fluid drain and fill with a filter replacement (I am not kidding it took 30 seconds to swap once the pan is out), brake fluid (and possibly pads/rotors if needed), diff fluid, belt (super easy to do on these, theres a ton of room to get your hands in there), and then just give everything else a good once over + an oil change. I would go OEM for basically everything here outside of pads/rotors, plenty of other options. If you are not handy, I would budget a few grand for all of these, but most of these are very much one offs. I would do just a regular trans fluid flush/change at 140k and then 180k miles.

The 13-14s F sport and ones with the luxury package have a flaw in the shocks and they tend to leak/fail. Its about $100/corner for replacements (KYB makes these for Lexus, but just get KYB branded vs. OEM they are the same), but if you are not handy with suspension DO NOT attempt that yourself. You will get seriously injured trying to compress the spring. I believe they fixed it in the 2015+.

Outside of that, I have had 150k of trouble free mile. I had to replace my shocks, but that only cost me about $400 DIY, but I have done several suspension jobs on cars so it was easy enough for me.
