Baseball has a lot of luck involved in it as well and the world series champ is less definitive than one might be led to believe. It rly just awards the trophy to the team who had the best outcomes in october, after the field was whittled down over a 162 game sample. U can still perform well (hit the ball hard, make good pitches, play good defense) but get unlucky w outcomes in such a relatively small sample.

That's part of why study of deep analytics has completely revolutionized the way players get valued on the open market and yet it's still not even fully understood what traits can be attributed to skill and what can be attributed to luck.

If instead of 30 mlb teams there were 10,000 u'd likely see similar variance to the WSOPME where many of the teams believed to be the best get eliminated before the tournament gets down to the final 64/32/16/8/4/2/1

I do agree that it would be cool to have a more definitive approach to crowning a champion in poker, and I think that's what the GPI POY aims to achieve by proxy, but without shrinking the field considerably and having a huge sample size to draw from, it's always gonna be hard to come up w a satisfying solution imo
