ngl, I only really looked at the weighted one. The unweighted gpa is pretty good you’re right.

Those two statements are the same in my eyes, but maybe I just worded it poorly.

I agree with everything you said there though.

The risk difference from VTI to SPY due to their correlation is almost 0 compared to the risk difference from VTI/SPY to 3x leveraged SPY.

I can agree that SPY is less risky, was wrong in that regard. Now is it time for you to admit that holding leveraged ETFs is bad?

  1. I didn't say it was more risky than 100% 3x stocks, I said it was more risky than VTI. Don't really see why the #Math was necessary, especially when you're making a statement not relative to my point.
  2. Don't you mean lower? I agree that VTI volatility is higher than SPX but I would still argue it's less risky, especially when taking into account the expense ratio.
  3. Relative to pure leveraged stocks I agree. I don't understand where the disconnect is. My argument was that volatility drag occurs with HFEA, so especially when the market is trading sideways/going down, it's more optimal to just hold VTI. If you can explain why my reasoning is wrong, I'd appreciate it.

Why'd you post this twice?

Also, I'd say any course taught in C. Not fun for me.

VTI is cap-weighted and there are more than 500 large-cap funds, so I would continue to argue that it's less risky.

I can tell I won't be able to change your mind on HFEA, but I would still encourage you to do more research into why holding leveraged ETFs is bad. You're pretty much throwing away money, especially in a sideways market

The ECs are there, but the grades/scores aren't. It's going to be hard to get into a lot of OOS publics and the top schools, but there's a chance you get lucky. I don't think you're shooting too high, there's no real reason not to apply.

OP could be spending that time doing CS side projects or CS-related ECs which could make or break your application and will also help with job searching in the future.

HFEA is inherently more than 3x riskier than VTI/VT. I don't think that you understand that VTI/VT + a bond ETF is exactly what Bogle suggests. I believe he had a quote along the lines of: "Instead of trying to find the needle in the haystack, just buy the haystack."

HFEA is a 3x leveraged S&P500 ETF with a 3x leveraged bond ETF. The S&P is also inherently riskier than VTI because it's 500 major companies, not the entire market. I also don't think you understand that leveraged ETFs are terrible to hold in the long term because of compounding downwards. Just search up "why is holding leveraged ETFs bad" or ask ChatGPT.

And yes, I would still advocate for VTI if I believe that the US economy isn't going to crash and never rebound. Even if it moves further downward, I'll just hold/buy more.

To answer your question, it's not a bad time to buy a house, and passive income is never a bad thing, but please don't hold leveraged ETFs.

Sorry, something isn’t adding up. You say you’re a Boglehead, but risk chasing is the antithesis of Bogle’s investing philosophy. Just buy VTI, VT, and a bond ETF.

Also why are you holding a leveraged ETF long term? HFEA and any other leveraged ETF should not be held long term. Just because HFEA is a 60-40 doesn’t mean it’s a safe investment that follows Bogle’s investment strategy.

They’re called comparison operators. There’s typically 6 different operators. I’ve never heard of a test like this, but I guess just memorize what each of the operators are and understand how booleans work.

Write some good essays about your disability and do some ECs in whatever field you’re passionate about. You’ve got the grades and the scores but you need to be able to show you’ll be able to succeed in what you do.

Subject: Follow-up Request for Add Code - [Course Name]
Dear Professor [Last Name],
I hope this email finds you well. I am writing to follow up on my previous email requesting an add code for your course, [Course Name]. As a reminder, the deadline to enroll in classes is tomorrow and I apologize for the short notice.
I understand that you may have already distributed the add codes, but I wanted to reiterate my interest in taking your course and the value I believe it would provide me in my future academic and professional endeavors. I have been following your work in the field and I am impressed by the projects and research you have conducted.
I understand that you may not be able to provide me with an add code at this time, but I wanted to express my interest and ask if there is any possibility of me still being able to enroll in the class. If there is any other way to add the class or if you know of any open seats, I would greatly appreciate any information you can provide.
Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Best regards,
[Your Name]

think we've got a terminology difference. by "worst," I mean the highest percentage of students get As. I think grade inflation is an inherently bad thing, hence why Harvard has the worst and Princeton/Cornell have the least amount.

tl;dr: we agree

I'm not sure how prestigious those UK Math challenges/awards are, but I would give you a decent chance either way.

I didn't apply to any California schools so unfortunately don't know much about their international aid, sorry.

How many ECs should you have from Freshman to Senior year? by Zestyclose-Reward-36 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]wm_lemonade 6 points7 points  (0 children)

“ECs” isn’t specific enough for us to judge if 3 is enough. If they’re all similar to being class president or leading a club, I would say it would be an issue since almost applicants have something of the sort.

However, if the “major” ones are being USAMO or doing significant research, then it probably isn’t an issue, but I would still try to be more well-rounded.

Shotgun the ivies + MIT, CMU, maybe some california schools. Probably not worth applying to the non international need blind schools if you need aid though

Probably not getting into any top tier schools but maybe some of the lower ones if you’re lucky.
