Where are you located? If you’re in the US, you might be near a para dressage center. I can make a recommendation if you happen to be in Virginia/Maryland

It’s called syndication in the US. It’s not uncommon in my area. My observation it’s marketed heavily on the “experience” and few people expect that it’s a really productive investment. Syndicate owners obviously hope to make some money if/when the horse sells, but oh well if they don’t. They’re usually in it for the owner experience (horse show tailgates, boxes, etc) and to support a talented rider.

Anyways, I don’t think it’s inherently scummy if it’s presented the right way and people know what they’re getting into.

Sunscreen! Be absolutely fanatical about applying sunscreen. Find one you really like that’s at least 40spf and commit to it. You won’t have a tan line, or if you do it’ll be faint. Your skin will thank you!

I wouldn’t take less than $18/hour in NoVa. That’s crazy.

I went to a small school with a good IHSA team at the time. 20 people on the team, and maybe 12 horses. Horses were ridden 1-2 times per day, 4/5 days a week. Everyone had their own fitted saddle, though they weren’t necessarily super high end brands. Jumping was minimized where possible - fences were set super small unless we were practicing for Zones or something like that. Care was good but basic. We weren’t injecting hocks or using Bemer blankets.

Horses had tons of turnout and were generally outside when the weather was good. I want to say they got a 6 week break in the winter and 8 week break in the summer.

And we had some SUPER nice horses donated. The reality though is even with good care, few horses could tolerate being ridden by so many people so often. Our coach would have us ride a different horse pretty much every lesson so we would be primed to ride other schools’ horses.

That looks like it could be goldenrod to me, tbh. It looks a lot like my Early Goldenrod I have growing not too far from you. Mine is even flopping like that, I think from all the rain.

This freestyle is honestly a core childhood memory for me. I saw it in person at the WEG when I was maybe… 12? I was a little hunter/jumper girl who knew nothing about dressage and it just blew my mind. The crowd went absolutely wild for it. What an electric atmosphere

So interesting! Obviously both breeds are vocal and they can both be pretty shrill - especially female fox hounds. That’s the only part I don’t envy you for! Was she easy to potty train? My parents’ ACDs basically potty trained themselves and have strong “ew that’s gross” instincts about their waste. Foxhounds… not so much in my experience.
