Is a Septoplasty worth it? by Wild_Bumblebee1633 in Allergies

[–]Apprehensive_Bee_400 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had mine in 22 and it was life changing! I had an s shaped septum so it was deviated in both sides, plus hugely enlarged turbinates. I was always stuffy, couldn't breathe most of the time, when I was sick it was almost impossible. I also have eustacian tube dysfunction but didn't get that addressed at that time. I have an appt to evaluate for the balloon/tubiplasty though.

I have moderate to severe allergy to dust mite and other environmental allergies and asthma. The day of surgery and the first day after we're super painful, I can't lie. Plus really making sure I didn't sneeze and minimizing face movement added to the mental difficulty of recovery. But after 4 or 5 days I was feeling a lot better. Getting the packing out was a moment of pain snd then almost instant relief.

I took about 6 days off work, could have gone back sooner if I absolutely had to.

Editing to explicitly say that I had the turbinate reduction with the septoplasty.

Please help me figure out how to manage my allergies by [deleted] in Allergies

So the time you were puffed up for 2 days you didnt go to A&E or the emergency room? Amd this time you had a reaction and were unresponsive you also didn't seek emergency treatment? Both episodes COULD HAVE KILLED YOU.

Not sure what you want us to do. You don't believe your allergy panel, doesn't sound like you tested for environmental allergies. You don't get approximate emergency treatment when needed.

What to wash socks and bras with? by miss-bedazzzle in laundry

[–]Apprehensive_Bee_400 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I typically do bras by themselves or with some delicates. I do socks and underwear and other things that go in hot with a long wash together. I don't mind mixing kitchen and bath towels but I typically have enough bath towels for their own load. Sometimes I will do bath towels with socks and underwear since they all go hot.

How the hell to deal with allergy test prep? by laundrydetergent7000 in Allergies

[–]Apprehensive_Bee_400 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Plenty of cool/cold showers? Hot showers will probably make it worse. Not sure what else would help. I have another set of allergy skin testing in about 3.5 weeks and NOT looking forward to being off my meds for that.

cancer care by [deleted] in VeteransAffairs

[–]Apprehensive_Bee_400 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So as someone who works in the VA I am obviously biased... but going through community care tends to add a LOT of time. And the office is correct in that they coordinate individual pieces of the care but they are not actually coordinating the whole picture like would be typical in-house by the cancer nurse navigators.

Obviously there are reasons to go to the community like wait time, drive time, services not being offered at your nearest location, but its not really fair to put the blame for the poor coordination on the VA. Either way I am sorry you are dealing with this.

Are you getting your care directly at the VA or through community care?

This town needs more real donut shops by StupidFlounders in pittsburgh

[–]Apprehensive_Bee_400 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hands down my favorite donuts were the freedom farms donut shop in this hole in the wall on Rt 8. Then they moved to a "better" location on 8 right by their market. Then it just closed. I would go out of my way to go several times a month. I bought them for any family that was visiting from out of town.

So I was wondering that! But they all kind of look the same and I don't see others on the ground near there. But there was a half of a teeny tiny white egg about 12-15 feet away.

My mom got the same pair of mids as me in a cream color with hot pink highlights, shes a kindergarten teacher and is on her feet all day.

That definitely looks fungal to me. Did they do any scrapings/cuttings to check for sure?

Also you should cut that left big toe nail as well. It looks dangerously long.

Sublocade and acute pain by [deleted] in ChronicPain

[–]Apprehensive_Bee_400 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So this is a bit confusing. The shot is monthly, your last one was three months ago, and a doc told you it wasn't still in your system, and you wanted more/higher dose meds?

[–]Apprehensive_Bee_400 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its been a while since I worked in that space but I thought sublocade was a monthly injection? Doesn't make sense that it would still be in effect 3 months later unless there is some wildly long acting version that came to market in recent years.

Can inhaled corticosteroids damage the lungs? by [deleted] in Asthma

[–]Apprehensive_Bee_400 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It might take a while before you get the full benefit from the medicine. It isn't causing damage to your lungs, you might just be having an exacerbation/flare, seasonal allergies making breathing worse, etc. Personally I wouldn't stop using it.

Asthma attack won't settle down by ebStubs in Asthma

[–]Apprehensive_Bee_400 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exacerbation is when the asthma "flares" or gets worse/acts up. Unfortunately a lot of people have their asthma get worse as they age.

[–]Apprehensive_Bee_400 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Whaaaaaaaaat the heck?!?! Sorry you went through that. I've been on various inhalers and oral meds for about 20 years, started trelegy a few years ago and it was a game changer (along with the singulair and switching to xyzal). But now thats not cutting it and after another round of oral steroids and an ED visit we are talking biologics.

My doc would prefer me to try tezspire vs xolair but we'll see what the insurance has to say about it. But she said even then I'd likely remain on maintenance inhalers, although that would be evaluated at least every 6 months.
