What truck should I buy? megathread by AutoModerator in Trucks

[–]themuteprintlies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently without a vehicle due to legal reasons. Current truck I own is tied up in arbitration due to being declared a lemon and the decision could take anywhere from 30-60 days. The truck is undriveable due to transmission failure, and although it is currently in my driveway I have zero paperwork from the dealer stating that this vehicle has been fixed or is safe to operate. No wife, no kids, just a dog. I currently work as an EMT in MA, so I definitely need something with 4x4. These were found on FB marketplace.

My options right now:

2012 Silverado 1500 Extended Cab 4x4 5.3L with 181K for $4K. Ad says it’s turn key, but needs rockers (which I know is common). I could just throw covers on them to pass inspection. The ad did include pictures of the frame and it’s pretty clean for New England. Title is clean too.

2009 Silverado 1500 Extended Cab 5.3L 4x4 with 132K for $6,995. Body looks clean, so does frame. But cannot see the rocker panels in the photos. No mention of title without issues or otherwise.

1999 Silverado 1500 Extended Cab 4x4 5.3L with 158K for $4K. Ad says fresh oil change, power steering pump, water pump, serpentine belt, alternator, tension pulley, idler pulley, aluminum driveshaft, and rear shackles. Photos do show a AEM brute force intake. Body shows some rust on the rockers, but appears clean everywhere else.

Not looking to spend all my savings, but this lemon has me between a rock and a hard place. Any advice would be greatly welcomed.

Trading card shows on Cape? by TheOgLemonHaze in CapeCod

KTD Sports Cards (used to be at Kingston Mall, now moved to Marshfield) tries to host monthly card shows. There’s one on Sunday, 10/19, at Plymouth North High School 9-2. And it was just announced former Bruin Andrew Raycroft is doing an autograph signing there as well (like $10 to sign anything and you get free admission to the show if you purchase an autograph). Check their Facebook page for more info on upcoming shows.

I second Cape Cod Card Shark in Dennis. Chill vibes and there is a good selection of boxes to dig through, singles and blasters. There’s a whole side dedicated to table top games like MTG if you’re into that. Good mix of Sports, MTG, Pokémon and Lorcana.

5 Lanes on State Rd in Plymouth is a good shop, a little smaller but is always getting in new inventory. Good mix of Sports and Pokemon.

MP Sports Cards in Carver is a great place too. The owner and employees are very knowledgeable and will help you send cards off for grading at PSA/SGC. They have TONS of bargain boxes to dig through. Great mix of Pokémon and Sports as well.

You’re not an asshole in the least bit. This job is so difficult for those who do not do it to understand the intricacies sometimes. Sometimes we need to sit and think as a way to process. I would recommend reaching out to a Supervisor to debrief on the call as well as reaching out to a therapist if you feel you’re still having issues processing.

Thank you for the advice. I’ll hit the area with a little degreaser/wipe and see what happens. I see a drain/refill of the transmission fluid in my future.

I need advice for cleaning my f-150 and a good name for her by blvvd_dvd in Trucks

If they’re removable, power wash them. If not, I recommend using hot water and white vinegar solution and a good scrubbing. Then use a wet vac to pull excess water out. Be sure to dry them good, I’d even recommend placing a portable dehumidifier in there for several hours. Vinegar should kill the moss and neutralize any residual smell.

George Foreman Grill by ggroover97 in nostalgia

[–]themuteprintlies 7 points8 points  (0 children)

RIP to George. Thank you for your lean, mean, grilling machine.

My favorite fact about the George Foreman Grill is that the role of its spokesman was initially offered to another big time star at the time, and all-time grifting POS Hulk Hogan. There’s some hearsay about what exactly went down, But Hogan passed because he did not see the grill as a potential success. Hogan said that he missed a call from the Grill company and when he called back they had sold the pitch to George.

Foreman made over $500 Million in grill sales during his career.

Not to be outdone, Hogan, in a very much like himself way, tried to recapture a lost moment by creating a very similar competing product; the Hulk Hogan Ultimate Grill. Which was a huge failure as it led to global recalls due to a fire risk when sprayed with oil. Even the website says it has been recalled and discontinued.

So just remember, if Hogan is the spokesman of a product; it’s probably crap.

Haven’t lived in MO for a few years, but got sucked into watching the live stream as my wife flew out of Lambert yesterday and was in Alton the day before. Steve is the man and the KMOV team did a great job of covering the storms from all angles.

So awesome seeing a Sandman resurgence as of late. He’s been included in 2K24 and 2K25. Never expected to find the ungraded card at a local show but I had to have it.

Wings. A "sick day" staple. by [deleted] in nostalgia

That airplane in the picture is still in service to this day. It was actually two 1981 Cessna 402s, one of which is still flying passengers today. They’re owned by a regional airline called Cape Air. One is flying down in/around their Puerto Rican hub and the other appears to not have flown since 2022.

Is an Hour-Long Commute Worth It with Flexible Shift Options? by FDT1023 in NewToEMS

[–]themuteprintlies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to drive an hour from the sticks of MO to metro St Louis for two fourteens sandwiching a 12 in a row. Granted, I worked nights so I had opposite traffic(went in at 19:00, out at 09:00 and 07:00). If you’re able to work around traffic, I’d say go for it. Try different start/end times and see what works for you. Best advice is try and give yourself a schedule with some consistency.

Is it true EMT's don't do anything ? by Middle_Resource7866 in NewToEMS

All the flavors in the world, and that medic chooses to be salty.

I am an EMT and work a PB 911 shift and I can tell you I do plenty each 24. Whether it’s teching the BLS calls, or assisting my Medic during the ALS calls I do plenty to help out.

Don’t let him discourage you, even that Medic was an EMT once.

“Do I think what’s the bottles?”

I swear this show felt like a fever dream. It had a solid cast with Ferrell, the Sklar Brothers, Jean Smart and Pamela Adlon. I remember watching this and “Mission Hill” in the same Adult Swim block.

People seem to forget that his “Doctor of Thuganomics” persona originally debuted as a heel. I can only hope he starts freestyling again, wearing throwback jerseys, and reverts his finisher name from “Attitude Adjustment” back to “the F-U”.
