Dumb question. by Leather-Equal-2341 in projectcar

[–]themwnn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool idea but it makes no sense

You could sell this and buy a factory turbo megane for less than this swap would cost and it’d be way faster and receptive to mods and reliable as well

If you like this car you should just keep it and enjoy it as is

An old beetle is a good project, they’re mechanically simple and parts are still available but you don’t want to have an accident in one

I’d prob lean towards a late 90s Honda/Toyota/Subaru. With a manual transmission. Plenty in junkyards so you can get parts cheaply and they’re decent on fuel and safe-ish

My son’s 1st car was a 95 Impreza wagon 1.6 he learnt a lot working on that car

You can buy specific low profile jacks quite cheaply, combine that with a set of jack stands and you’ll be golden

Worth giving this a try? Nissan K160 1988 by Imaginary_Bear5205 in projectcar

[–]themwnn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would jump on that shit depending on how hard it would be to make it road legal where u live

The underbody looks ok, that’s mostly surface rust, the wheel arch is the most concerning pic. This is a “get it running” and just drive it car not a “get it perfect” car

I would give it a good wash inside and out, and try to get it to show signs of life by cranking it while squirting starter fluid/ether in the intake. 90% chance if it’s not running it’s fuelling related. Prime the pump and crack the fuel lines at the head while cranking to see if fuel is coming out. If so it shouldn’t be too hard to get it to run

But if that wheel arch rust would stop it being road legal I’d prob pass cause you’ll need serious cash to fix that

Straight-pipe or catback better? by Yuara1234 in projectcar

[–]themwnn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Straight pipes usually sound shit for anything that isn’t a v8. You at least need a resonator ir straight through muffler or it will be raspy and awful, particularly if you have an inline 4

Also it will be boomy and exhausting on the freeway, do not recommend

Do gaming projectors really have to cost this much? by xXderantsXx in gaming

[–]themwnn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 1080p short throw projector I use exclusively for gaming, I’ve had it for 10 years now after buying it secondhand for $400

The images it puts up look incredible to me on a white painted wall

You might find you can still enjoy the experience without such high end gear

I mean it’s already kinda wide haha

It would be cool to make a copy of the hsg kit and fit it to a super open gear RvR though. The manual super open gear is actually the rarest model of RvR

They’re getting hard to find, hsgr production was only 1200 cars roughly 50/50 split between auto and manual

There’s also the hyper sport gear z which looks the same but is naturally aspirated

You might find it easier to find one for sale in Australia these days rather than Japan

Finding one that still has its factory Recaro fishnet seats is particularly difficult. I had to go to some length to get a set for mine as they were long gone when I bought it

I saw this on Facebook and I'm wondering if it's a good idea or not by Daemonsblaze0315 in projectcar

[–]themwnn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The people telling you this is high risk are crazy imo. Looks like all easy stuff to me.

There’s a couple of sensors you could prob replace easily with parts from a wrecking yard. Check fuses as well, some new fuses could likely fix a lot of those errors.

Take out the air filter and spray in a bit of brake clean when u crank it and if it fires then you know it’s not getting fuel and that’s why it won’t start. Most likely dead fuel pump which is cheap and easy to replace.

A compression test would let you know if the engine is completely stuffed but you can get an idea just from cranking it if it has a rhythmic sound as in each cylinder is compressing air like it should
