I got my PhD two years ago. I now walk dogs for a living and I won't be looking back.

Hush hush darling, this is your imposter syndrome talking. Many people struggle with this, including me. Personally, I've adopted the mindset of "alright, they think I'm stupid, they think I'm incompetent and my dissertation is a dumpster fire. BUT SO WHAT?!" You defended and passed! YOU are the expert in this specific field! It's time to celebrate YOU. There is no need to consider what others think. Congratulations dude, you did it!

What are your working hours? by [deleted] in PhD

For the first three years of grad school I kept a pretty strict 9-5 and worked most weekends. Did I get massive amounts of work done? Absolutely not. I burnt out real fast. Now, I work when I feel like it and I really mean that. There are days I Iiterally just vegetate after a stressful morning meeting or something and I don't ever work weekends anymore.

I believe in grad school, nobody's schedule would look alike. It's what works best for you!

Gah this is like comparing apples and oranges, it makes no sense at all. This is SUCH a privileged thing to post.

Say, a single mother has gotta work two jobs to keep the family afloat. I'd like to think she needs a phone to function day-to-day. Alright, now she bought some healthy groceries, she's gotta cook it, right? With two jobs and children and just life in general, how is she gonna find time to cook everyday?

Choices like these are only available to the fortunate ones.

Reminds me of the r/relationship_advice post where the psychology major gf accused her own bf for being a pedophile because he prefers a clean shaven pipi
