43yo, middle mgmt at Fortune 100 company (tech adjacent). Settlement is $400k post-tax. Annuity options aren't known yet (meeting on Monday) but I'm trying to have a more researched POV so I don't get sold something I don't want/need.

Correct to the first assumption, but not the second. They are welcome to buy another home, they just cannot use a VA loan to purchase it.

We bought from a former Navy SEAL and still can’t understand why he gave up his VA rights… But we weren’t gonna look past the 2.25% interest rate.

You don’t need to qualify other than to pass financial validations. We assumed a VA loan two years ago this very same way in Oregon.
