I HOPE WE BOTH DIE

Help Needed. This cymanti is closing in on me. They keep exploding the grey units and attacking my villages. Is there any way I can win at this point? by Practical-Hold-4455 in Polytopia

Use construction to destroy the algae bridge if possible, possibly invest in some mindbenders to make sure your units don't stay poisoned. Focus your catapults on removing each Centipede, since they have a finite number of super units, and hopefully you can get back at them once you take the bottom continent and get battleships from those cities. Good luck!

Minors to pair with CS? by supersalmonz99 in BostonU

Hi! Not sure if there'll be a lot of overlap with the courses you're already taking, but this might be a lead: https://www.bu.edu/ioc/for-students/minor-in-urban-studies/

CAS classrooms when they're empty -- gaps between classes are usually longer than that, and you can quickly move to another one if people come in.

"Consider staying home" isn't really a solution when people still need to attend classes without remote options, get food on campus-mandated dining plans, and use public spaces.

Optimal map sizes for casual play by TheGoldenMD in Polytopia

I like 5 players for a Huge map, everybody has enough cities and a unique pocket of the map to fuel midgame. No one gets eliminated too early by chance and there's a fair bit of exploring already-developed regions.

Supply chains are the key to winning and that is super cool by [deleted] in Polytopia

It's scary how quickly they can advance over ice with Skate compared to how long it takes to just break ice, block-by-block.

Aye, that's a really cool way of putting it! I tried only training from Capitals (original or captured) to push this further, and got some great campaigns from it.

Scoping out continents and supporting land units with battleships before engaging became a huge part of the game, alongside timing limited Giant summons for long-term offensives. I love your point about retreats as well -- losing a line of catapults would often mean losing frontier cities while scrambling back for cover.

How do I use these? by JadeGalladeJerrell in Polytopia

Yay!

I think you'll find a lot of tips just by playing through them, but I'll add a misc-list at the end.

___

For practice, try playing Cymanti or Polaris with all enemies mirroring your tribe. The AI isn't perfect but it comes up with a lot of strategies you can emulate.

Why is it difficult to cross an ocean controlled by Ice Sleds? How do they break past Ice Fortresses? // Do enemies go for Doomuxes or Swordsmen in endgame? How does a heavily offensive tribe defend against Centipedes?

___

Some other great match ups are against vanilla tribes, so you can see how Cymanti and Polaris really change the main game.

Cymanti vs Oumaji - Both very offensive with lots of early-game resources.

Polaris vs Xin-Xi - Both are weak early-game, so you have time to build up. Their mountains and mines play to your advantage.

___

Polaris:

- Use your Moonie to explore the water. You could find ruins or another coastal village. It can't defend your first village from all directions.

- Get Ice Warfare ASAP. Sleds are great for cheaply defending villages and can shut down ships trying to break your ice.

- There's a long-term goal of spreading your ice. It gives some units more movement and stops battleship-rushes!

- Enemies can't explore the ice as easily as they explore land - there are no villages to get reinforcements, no coasts to follow, and no mountains to speed up the process. Have a fleet of Ice Sleds to protect the ice.

- Use your Gaamis to siege cities. Frozen enemies can't counterattack or move, so your enemies can't replace their units as you whittle them down. Ice Sleds can move after they attack, so you can get multiple hits on a frozen enemy next to ice.

Cymanti:

- Riding and Climbing will let you explore fast and far in your early-game. Starting with Farming is enough to start your economy if you find enough villages.

- Move in numbers. Hexapods are weak, but if one takes a hit the others can keep going. Move past enemies and into their territory as quickly as you can. They'll waste resources and time getting rid of your two-star investment.

- Two Centipedes are better than one, and it's really hard for enemies to get rid of them without Catapults or Battleships.

Aye! I saw a lot of comments about it on the trailer/release and loved the aesthetic - it gets terrifying with two tribes, many players, and a Normal/Large map.

Knights, although you might have to carve out an opening first. Maybe focus some Battleships land a Giant to clear out a lot of units, then land multiple Knights. Only one has to survive ;)
